Successful Container Management

At the ceremony, Andreas Grunwald, Vice President Port Solutions at dbh Logistics IT, presented a certificate to Andreas Ahlfeld, Branch Manager at POLZUG Bremerhaven. In his role as terminal operator, Jörg Liermann, Manager Service / EDV-Logistics of EUROGATE Container Terminal Bremerhaven MSC Gate, was also very much involved from the beginning of the project.

CODIS is the central and neutral communication platform for rail container traffic at the Bremen ports. Since July 2008, dbh CODIS has been exclusively supplying data for the loading schedules at the EUROGATE, MSC and NTB container terminals in Bremerhaven. As a first step, CODIS provides a more efficient processing of the rail transport, and enables the load data to be transferred to the schedulers completely electronically. The sheer number of containers processed for clearance in this way is testimony to the high quality of the successful software solution.

When it was introduced in July 2008, CODIS Disposition was the final module in the dbh communication platform. The platform now caters for the entire communication between the clients and the container terminals. POLZUG has been working with the CODIS Order Management module since June 2005 and can be said to have been “in at the birth”. Via regular block trains, POLZUG has been running a service for some 20 years now from the Northern European container ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam to Poland and the Eastern European hinterland through to the Caucasus and Central Asia.

In Poland, the main market, POLZUG serves eight terminals in the major commercial centres, including four of its own in Pruszkow (Warsaw), Wroclaw, Gadki (Posen) and in Dabrowa Gornicza near Kattowice.

The services offered include the nationwide registration of the goods with customs, container storage, electronic depot registration and customs clearance.

POLZUG focuses above all on quality, environmental protection, and sustainability. “We set very high standards at POLZUG and CODIS is the perfect support tool for us in this respect. CODIS supplies us daily with all the data we need and so we can steer our operative processes much more easily and more efficiently” said Andreas Ahlfeld, POLZUG Bremerhaven Branch Manager.

“We are therefore all the more pleased that a long-standing customer and partner such as POLZUG has been able to process the half-millionth container with CODIS”, commented Andreas Grunwald, Port Solutions Division Manager at dbh Logistics IT AG. “Not only did we gain a new client in POLZUG in 2005, but we also have a long-standing partnership with the company”, continued Andreas Grunwald. The two companies also successfully co-operated on further projects (WADIS, CHINOS).

The future for CODIS is rosy. According to current plans, from August 2012 the EUROGATE Container Terminal at Wilhelmshaven will be supplied by data from its own CODIS version. In addition, CODIS will do the scheduling of the track pre-switching units and the railway lines in the logistics zones. dbh are working all the time on the quality assurance and further development of their system.
