POWRtec: Worldwide Utility Industry Survey Shows Promising Future for Smart Meters

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/28/11 — POWRtec International Corp. (OTCBB: POWT), an innovative California-based energy monitoring company, welcomes the 2011 Worldwide Utility Industry Survey.

POWRtec welcomes the recent 2011 Worldwide Utility Industry Survey by software solutions provider, Microsoft. The survey shows amongst other things that utilities are increasingly moving from the planning to the implementation stage of smart grid development. There is a general trend throughout the world to invest in updating the grid. General industry expectations — at a level of 73 % of respondents — are that budgets to support the implementation of smart grids are on the rise, according to the survey. These indications show that the hype about smart grids has died down and the real work has begun.

The European Union (EU) plans on cutting its carbon emissions by 20 % by the year 2020. This is an ambitious goal, which can only be reached by developing the electrical grid of the 21st century through employing products offering advanced information to consumers and utilities, such as the ones produced by POWRtec. Grant Jasmin, CEO of POWRtec, comments: “This survey confirms that smart grid implementation — and thus the smart meter market — is increasingly gaining speed globally. The time is ripe for smart meters and for POWRtec to pursue these arising opportunities.” Reducing power consumption is considered the most immediate solution to lowering carbon emissions.

POWRtec is a dynamic and unique energy monitoring company with the potential to dominate the smart meter industry with its innovative intelligent smart meters. POWRtec-s meters are network-enabled and can be built to utilize virtually any communications protocol. This empowers the intelligent smart meters to directly control network enabled, power-draining devices by switching them on and off in accordance with the desired energy output, resulting in more efficient use of resources, smaller energy bills and enormous benefits to the environment. POWRtec-s products can directly reduce the amount of energy waste and make a meaningful difference to the environment.
