Oracle Encourages the Cities of the Future by Supporting the “Living Labs Global Award”

REDWOOD SHORES, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/03/12 — Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL)

Oracle, together with 21 cities on four continents, The Climate Group and the World Bank joined the Living Labs Global Award initiative, aiming to find innovative technology solutions to improve the quality of life of 87 million citizens in the world.

The nonprofit Living Labs Global is responsible for promoting new technologies and services in cities. The entity will work with the cities (Barcelona, Birmingham, Caceres, Cape Town, Guadalajara, Hamburg, Lagos, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco and Santiago de Chile, among others) as the choice of suppliers with the best technology solutions to meet urban challenges.

The architecture of drives future sustainability of cities, promoting the philosophy that the balance of the planet depends on the adoption of advanced technology in cities to become more intelligent.

Oracle offers its support to these cities through technological solutions and business intelligence that can provide continuity, reuse and lower ecological impact. The intention is that the cities of tomorrow can integrate urban infrastructure, and telecommunications technologies, creating an intelligent network allowing the self-sustainability.

Again, Oracle reaffirms its commitment to become a strategic ally for cities and companies that want to innovate with technology to meet the real needs and future challenges. The first edition of “Living Labs Global Award” last year received 562 entries with the participation of 41 countries. Included in the winning proposals were a smart solution for parking in Stockholm and an open data platform of citizen participation in San Francisco.

The next award winners of the “Living Labs Global Award” will be held in Rio de Janeiro, on May 17, 2012, during the meeting of innovative services in the cities.
