HP Helps Telecoms Tap LTE Networks to Deliver Personalized Mobile Experience

PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwire) — 02/23/12 — HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced solutions that will enable telecom companies to provide millions of customers with a highly personalized mobile experience as they move to high-speed Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks.

HP has expanded the portfolio with two key offerings designed for communications service providers (CSPs):

The solution, which supports multiple networks, is enhanced with mobility management features that help CSPs migrate smoothly from 2G/3G networks to LTE networks.

The management solution now integrates real-time charging (billing) so CSPs can apply business rules that allow personalized services and offers to customers.

“LTE is both a challenge and an opportunity for CSPs, as it levels the playing field for intense -co-opetition- and opens the door to new revenues,” said David Sliter, vice president and general manager, Communications and Media Solutions, HP Enterprise Services. “HP is helping CSPs use their unique assets to forge personalized, loyal customer relationships that can lead to entirely new revenue streams.”

In 2G and 3G networks, CSPs applied network-based policy rules to ensure quality of service for all customers and manage bandwidth usage to avoid congestion and bill shock. With LTE networks, policy management is evolving toward quality of experience, providing users with real-time, personalized services and offers.

Addressing this shift, HP SNAP now combines policy and charging rules to create a single, holistic view of rules that draws on data from diverse sources, including the network (both 3G and LTE), billing systems, customer data stores and application environments.

With the integrated, real-time HP SNAP platform, CSPs can develop insightful policy and charging rules that enable personalized, context-aware offerings for customers. Such offerings can include tiered pricing plans, content packages, customized service bundles, and real-time up-sell offers.

By providing customized services and offers, CSPs can enhance the customer experience, increase loyalty, reduce churn and, ultimately, generate more revenue.

In the CSP network, the HSS is the primary repository of information on all customers, including personal profiles and the mobile services they use. As the master database, it helps CSPs manage network access, authentication and service delivery for millions of users.

HP HSS version 5.1 includes new features that are designed to help CSPs address three key challenges as they launch LTE networks:

Seamless fallback from LTE to 2G/3G. Legacy and LTE networks will coexist for some time. HP HSS helps CSPs provide uninterrupted service as users move between networks. With a new dual-registration process, HP HSS allows for fast switch-over between networks.

Voice over LTE (VoLTE). HP HSS 5.1 enables high-quality VoLTE calls by extending support for Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the industry framework for delivering digital multimedia services.

Voice calls between LTE and 3G networks. HP HSS helps CSPs provide seamless voice service over multiple networks. HP HSS allows switching of calls between LTE and 3G networks by supporting the Single Voice Call Continuity protocol as an IMS application.

HP solutions will be demonstrated at Mobile World Congress at the “App Planet” in Hall 7, Stand 7C37.
