Appia and America Movil Partner to Bring Apps to All of Latin America

MEXICO CITY and DURHAM, NC — (Marketwire) — 02/23/12 — América Móvil, the largest mobile operator in the Americas, today announces the launch of its iApps Application Stores powered by Appia, bringing a vast catalog of apps and games to all América Móvil subscribers across Latin America. The iApps Application Stores are now available through América Móvil-s operating partners Claro, Comcel, and Telcel reaching over 240 million mobile subscribers in 18 countries across Latin America including Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.

For many consumers in América Móvil-s markets, their mobile phone is their only connection to the Internet, making it critical to have a wide and robust selection of applications. Appia has worked closely with América Móvil to design an Application Store experience that meets the needs of its customers. With the rapid adoption of mobile services throughout Latin America, it was critical for América Móvil to have a compelling and engaging Application Store, and Appia-s service provides multiple storefronts customized to América Móvil-s current needs with the flexibility to evolve as the market matures.

“With the launch of our Application Stores powered by Appia to all América Móvil subscribers, Apps are now available to the majority of Latin American Mobile subscribers,” said Marco Quatorze, Director of Value Added Services, América Móvil, “Appia-s carrier-grade solution enabled us to quickly roll out the largest Application Store across Latin America.”

Appia-s Application Catalog includes thousands of applications and games for Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, and Java phones. The iApps Application Stores include both paid and free applications such as social media, news, weather and sports apps in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Leading application developers including Rovio and Gameloft are distributing their app through the iApps Application store, along with internationally recognized application developers including Facebook, Electronic Arts, and MocoSpace.

“América Móvil-s iApps Application Stores have been a great source of traffic for us,” said Lukasz Deszczulka, Executive VP Marketing for Tequila Mobile. “The Latin American apps market is growing rapidly, and Appia and América Móvil have made it incredibly easy to reach users and generate downloads.”

Appia-s application marketplace solution provides a carrier-grade managed service platform for América Móvil-s iApps Application Stores, including the catalog of applications as well as the platform for storefront merchandising and commerce. América Móvil has deployed the Application Stores across its operators in 18 countries, and all stores are integrated with América Móvil-s billing and customer care systems to provide a seamless experience for consumers. Appia works closely with the developer marketing teams in each market to source local, relevant content and ensure a dynamic, compelling user experience.

“Appia is excited to partner with América Móvil to bring apps to the hundreds of millions of mobile subscribers in North, Central and South America,” said Jud Bowman, CEO of Appia. “As app use continues to grow globally, Latin American is a phenomenal opportunity for application distribution and we expect tremendous growth in app consumption.”
