Kinetic Process Innovation Award Goes to Blue Pillar for Distributed Energy Asset Management at Duke University Health System

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — (Marketwire) — 02/23/12 — Blue Pillar, Inc. has been named a recipient of the 2012 Kinetic Process Innovation Award for an innovative deployment of its generator monitoring and control system at Duke University Health System. Now in its 16th year, the awards program recognizes excellence in information technology and is sponsored by High Tech Views, an online publication that spotlights technology innovation.

“We are extremely pleased and thank our customer, Duke University Health System, for its leadership in securing this honor,” said Kevin Kushman, CEO of Blue Pillar. “Duke Health looked to Blue Pillar for a quick-to-deploy packaged software and controls solution for testing and managing all of its emergency power supply equipment across multiple campuses. Blue Pillar microservers communicate at every circuit end-point with our central server — enabling single point command and control in real-time. Duke now has a cyber-secure monitoring and control system for their emergency power asset portfolio. This eliminates manual intervention and provides the highest assurance that accreditation and compliance standards are met.”

Regulatory and accreditation mandates require Duke to undertake monthly load testing on its more than 50 generators across 4 regional campuses. Their manual system has now been replaced with Blue Pillar-s ability to monitor hundreds of I/O points which are closely tracked and archived for reporting. The solution has also given Duke the ability to quickly respond to a demand response program offered by the local utility.

“Blue Pillar and Duke University Medical Center are to be highly commended for this outstanding demonstration of how energy assets can be managed efficiently,” said Drew Barrows, deputy editor of High Tech Views. “The continuing quality of entries year over year clearly illustrates the creativity and innovation that is embraced by technology providers and their customers.”
