LOGINventory5 providing License Management, Access Control and MS PowerShell Scripting

LOGINventory collects the data of all active hardware and installed software from IP-enabled devices within the entire network very quickly, regardless of the organization’s size or structure. In Windows environments it is now possible to enumerate local administrators and other local groups, as well as remote desktop users. The inventory of non-Windows-based devices like Linux computers, routers, switches, and print servers via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is enhanced by more useful options and improved quality. The definitions from Printer MIB for network printers and the Entity MIB for switches and routers are now used by default.
New methods of analyzing data

Under the redesigned hood LOGINventory5 contains highly developed functions for enhanced operability. Analyses are organized hierarchically and pass their filter conditions on to sub nodes. Any Analyse Node can be assigned to users or user groups as their root node and may be displayed as default node types like Software, Assets, or User Node for all queries. With new role based administration based on the user requirements, it is possible to get filtered and customized views on the LOGINventory database by completely masking, for example, the upper tree with its unfiltered, predefined views. This feature allows administrators to establish a dedicated access control on a high level.

Microsoft Windows PowerShell Scripting
LOGINventory5 allows scripting and automation via MS Windows PowerShell 2.0 as it is now based on Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. The object-oriented PowerShell Scripting add-on enables administrators to be automatically informed about the status of certain asset attributes or properties, such as software license violations. PowerShell commands can be executed via command prompt or can be generated as scripts from within the LOGINventory management console.

License Management
LOGINventory5 offers enhanced license management capabilities. The user can group software packages into licenses and manage license acquisitions and dispositions along with the associated documents, e.g. maintenance agreements.

Enhanced MMC application
The new LOGINventory5 Dashboard offers a new user friendly graphical interface. It displays a quick view over the basic network inventory data. The custom settings for LOGINventory5 can be made via the root node’s -Properties- and the LOGINventory time machine is now available in the -Properties- of any Analyse Node.

A useful innovation for large multi-site organizations is the new Domain node, displaying a clearly laid out view of the entire network within the MMC.

In LOGINventory5 the filter bar is turned on by default and contains a pull down menu for picking selective values. For an improved asset indication users can choose between the traditional list view or the new group view. The detection of computers where software packages or hot fixes are not installed has been improved and is now implemented as standard functionality.

Migration from previous versions
In order not to lose any data collected by previous versions, LOGINventory allows the transfer of these data into LOGINventory5 with the v5 Migration Wizard. It executes the Database Maintenance Wizard providing functions for detection, repair and validation of database inconsistencies.

Roland Loetzerich, CEO of LOGIN, says about new LOGINventory5, “The innovative design concept of our tool offers a very intuitive handling and flexible options to provide the administrator with information about what has been and what is going on in the network. To get as much information as possible is one thing; to have comfortable, fast and easy access to the data you need is another. LOGINventory provides both of it.”

New licensing model, traditional pricing
LOGINventory v5 comes with a simplified licensing model; the distinction between computers and devices was removed. Deleted assets within the Recycle Bin or imperfectly scanned assets (the latter appear in the new Faulty Node) no longer consume a license. Customers needing additional licenses (caused by the modified license model) after the upgrade will be granted them at no cost. For this reason LOGINventory5 integrates a special wizard, figuring out exactly how many additional licenses a customer may claim in order to insert all assets in the database to obtain a comprehensive inventory.

Prices will remain almost identical. For all customers without valid Software Upgrade Subscription License (SUSL) the upgrade from v4 to v5 will be priced at 60% of the full version’s list price and includes 12 months of SUSL. The free version for 20 assets and more information is available at www.loginventory.com.
