Health 2.0 Announces Hokie Health Code-a-Thon, Tapping Talent in Southwest Virginia-s Emerging Technology Hotbed

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 04/09/12 — announced today the which will be held April 13-14 in Blacksburg, Virginia, an up-and-coming medical and technology hub for innovators. The two-day challenge will bring together multidisciplinary teams of physicians, students, software developers, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, technology innovators and others to develop applications that enhance care quality, safety and efficiency. The winner will receive $2,500 and five runner-up projects will receive $500 each.

The event requires contestants to develop prototype applications and offers the opportunity to demonstrate their I.T. chops and make valuable connections in hopes of commercializing the products.

The competition kicks-off with keynote Aneesh Chopra, the White House-s first Chief Technology Officer. Previously, Chopra was Virginia-s Secretary of Technology, a managing director at The Advisory Board Company, and investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley.

Health 2.0 Co-Chairman and health care futurist, Matthew Holt, will share real-world insights on “Commercialization in Health IT.” Eric Ries, an entrepreneur, business advisor, blogger, and co-founder and chief technology officer of IMVU, will deliver via Skype a presentation on “Launching a Lean Startup.”
