SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwire) — 04/20/12 — , a leading provider of solutions, today announced that Peter Mehring, Chief Executive Officer, will speak at the U.S. State Department-s Global Impact Economy Forum, offering insights on technology for developing sustainable agriculture supply chains and reducing inefficiencies in the food value chain. The forum, hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, is being held in Washington DC on April 26.

Mr. Mehring is featured on a panel titled where panelists will discuss how a combination of technical assistance, grants, investment and technology backed by innovative business models is required to develop sustainable agricultural supply chains and reduce inefficiencies in the food value chain. The panel will examine successful models to date and discuss how to expand upon these successes in the agricultural sector. The panel also includes industry experts from , , , and .

Capitalizing on case studies and programs at Intelleflex relating to food safety and quality, Mr. Mehring will discuss the current inefficiencies in the food value chain that result in post-harvest losses totaling up to one third of food produced annually. He will share use cases of organizations that are employing RFID technology to reduce waste and inefficiencies in their cold supply chains, thereby reducing post-harvest loss. Mehring will also address the innovative business models used to bring this technology to local farmers in Central and South America, engaging them in the global food supply chain by tracing food quality from farm to retail distributors. A single, cost-effective solution that maximizes delivered food yield — without increasing production — and simultaneously delivers the traceability mandated by the FSMA, creates new business dynamics that truly enable sustainable agriculture in remote regions.
