Media Alert: President Obama Officially Opens BlogHer -12 Conference in New York City

BELMONT, CA and NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 08/03/12 — ., the premium cross-platform media network and publisher for women announced that President Barack Obama officially opened the 8th Annual BlogHer Conference on Thursday via live satellite. With 5,000 registered attendees, BlogHer -12 hosts the nation-s most influential online women in New York City, August 2-4, 2012.

BlogHer co-founders Elisa Camahort Page and Lisa Stone introduced President Obama. “Thank you Mr. President for the respect you are showing to voters, and to this community in particular, by being with us today,” said Camahort Page.

“I wanted to say thank you,” the President told the assembled bloggers. “Like every father, I think about the role models that are out there for my daughters,” he said. “The fact that Sasha and Malia can go to places like BlogHer and find thousands of women who are writing about subjects from health to family and food and politics and careers, means a lot to me and Michelle.”

President Obama shared political perspectives relevant to the audience of over 5,000 online influential women. “Women make up more than half of our country and nearly half of our workforce.” He continued, “Every decision I make is to ensure that all of our daughters, as well as all of our sons, are growing up in a country that allows them to be anything they want to be.”

In closing, the President said “You, women, should have control over the decisions that affect your health, your lives, your careers. And if you share that belief, then I think you-ll agree that the choice women face right now in this election could not be bigger.”

An omni-partisan organization, BlogHer issued invitations to both campaigns to both speak at the conference and publish on BlogHer.com. As Camahort Page explained in an interview with The Huffington Post, “Women are the majority of voters. Women don-t only influence others about what to buy or what to watch but also influence others on how to vote. President Obama will tell us in his own words why he is here, but that is why we worked so hard to bring him here.”

Described by Variety Magazine as “Comic-con for women bloggers,” BlogHer -12 is bringing top bloggers together with 132 major brand name sponsors to network, learn and celebrate this diverse community in its largest conference to date.

Reaching 43 U.S. million women each month (Nielsen Site Census, July 2012), BlogHer () is the leading cross-platform media network created by, for and with women social media leaders.
