OCZ Technology Delivers Solid State Virtualization Solutions at VMworld 2012

SAN JOSE, CA — (Marketwire) — 08/24/12 — OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCZ), a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, will showcase its enterprise solid state virtualization solutions at this year-s VMworld 2012, located at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, from August 26th through August 30th. Focal to these demonstrations is OCZ-s fourth generation Z-Drive R4 PCI Express (PCIe) SSD and its VXL cache and virtualization software that delivers industry-leading flash data caching into VMware virtualized server platforms.

OCZ-s VMware Ready virtualization solution distributes flash caching resources on-demand across virtual machines (VMs) to maximize performance, and distributes the flash between VMs based on need, making sure that no VM inefficiently occupies flash when it can be better used elsewhere in the environment. This ensures the flash cache is optimally utilized at all times regardless of how many VMs are running concurrently. As an added benefit, VXL software does not require guest agents or special drivers within the application VM, and through hypervisor connectivity with VMware ESXi, works with any operating system supported by this platform. OCZ will demonstrate how the flash cache can be shared dynamically by any VM residing on the local server or on other servers in the virtualized cluster, significantly improving data access and server application performance, while reducing data center total cost of ownership (TCO).

As a world-s first, OCZ will showcase VXL-s unique capabilities as the only flash-based virtualization software to support end-to-end VMware Fault Tolerance without the need for a back-end SAN. For this High Availability (HA) -SAN-less- data center scenario, flash data is synchronously replicated by VXL software between Z-Drive R4 PCIe SSD cards residing on redundant cluster servers assuring that host-based flash is treated as a continuously available storage resource across VMware clusters. This approach yields no data loss and no VM downtime even during complete server failures.

OCZ-s flash virtualization solution will also be demonstrated running SQL Server 2012 databases using the Z-Drive R4 SSD against a traditional SAN array loaded with hard disk drives (HDDs). The results from this demonstration will show dramatic increases in SQL Server 2012 transactional input/output operations per second (IOPS) performance, significant reductions in database read latency, and impressive improvements in database query completion times.

Join OCZ Technology at this week-s VMworld 2012 to see the latest solid-state drives, software and partner solutions designed for VMware virtualization customers.
