WiTricity Launches Prodigy(TM), a Demonstration Kit for Wireless Electricity at Wireless Power World 2012

SHANGHAI, CHINA — (Marketwire) — 09/12/12 — , the inventors of highly resonant wireless power transfer — wireless electricity delivered safely over distance — today announced the launch of Prodigy at the Wireless Power World 2012 Conference in Shanghai. Prodigy aims to foster innovation by enabling engineers, product designers and science educators to demonstrate and explore the capabilities of wireless power over distance.

Commercial interest in wireless electricity is growing rapidly in consumer electronics, automotive, industrial and medical device markets. A recent report from Pike Research estimates that worldwide revenues from wireless power devices will exceed $15 billion by 2020, and that systems based on highly resonant wireless power transfer will account for over 80 percent of the total. WiTricity holds the fundamental patents related to highly resonant wireless power transfer in its portfolio of over 270 granted and pending patents worldwide. The company licenses its patent portfolio to companies wanting to use wireless power to make their products more convenient, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Prodigy is WiTricity-s low cost gateway to wireless power for engineers, product designers and science educators. The Prodigy kit is FCC certified, and provides the tools needed to demonstrate the advantages of highly resonant wireless power transfer:

Wireless power over distance, even when devices are flipped, turned or twisted

Multiple devices powered by a single source

Use of a resonant repeater that lets the energy hop over a greater distance

Power transfer through materials like a desk top, brick wall or glass window

“The applications for wireless power are limitless,” said Eric Giler, CEO of WiTricity. “From electric car charging and implanted medical devices to gadgets like smartphones and tablet computers, wireless power presents enormous possibilities. Our goal for Prodigy is to provide an affordable gateway for engineers and product designers, and also for science educators and researchers. We will offer an educational discount so that science teachers and engineering professors can show their students this amazing technology. Wireless power over distance is truly groundbreaking, and our goal is to make it accessible to as many people as possible.”

Prodigy is priced at $995, plus shipping and handling, and educational discounts are available. More information can be found on WiTricity-s website at .

WiTricity is the industry leader in wireless electricity delivered over distance. The company was founded in 2007 to commercialize an exciting new technology for wireless electricity invented by world renowned physicists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With a growing list of global clients in industries including consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices and defense, WiTricity has emerged as the leader for IP and expertise in highly resonant wireless power transfer.
