Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Selects HP to Streamline Data Quality Assurance

PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwire) — 09/20/12 — HP (NYSE: HPQ) Enterprise Services today announced it has been awarded a $43 million task order from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to continue providing information management, maintenance and integration to assist the electronic health records (EHR) incentive programs.

(IDR) database, the centerpiece of the agency-s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) strategy, since 2010. The IDR is an integrated data environment that contains Medicare claims, as well as beneficiary, provider and plan data. It houses more than 16 billion records used for determining incentive payments to doctors and hospitals via EHR, fraud waste and abuse (FWA) research, and other healthcare-related analytics.

CMS requires accurate Medicare payment data to allocate payments for eligible healthcare professionals and hospitals under EHR incentive programs created by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The five-year operations and maintenance contract enables HP to continue working as CMS-s National Level Repository (NLR) Data Quality contractor, providing quality data analysis while ensuring it is of “payment grade.”

“Data integrity is absolutely critical for ensuring the accuracy of payment-grade data,” said Marilyn Crouther, senior vice president and general manager, U.S. Public Sector, HP Enterprise Services. “HP-s 45-plus years of experience providing support services for Medicare and Medicaid clients, and proven project leadership during the initial contract period, enables CMS to optimize the IDR database to meet stringent requirements for payment-grade data.”

HP also will provide troubleshooting support for new and existing IDR users while providing a stable operational environment inclusive of database administration and extract, transform and loads (ETL). These improved data management capabilities will facilitate the agency-s fraud-fighting efforts by aggregating data sources used to identify FWA and significantly increase the quantity of data within the IDR.

HP has provided support services to Medicare and Medicaid clients for more than 45 years, handling 35 percent of all Medicare and Medicaid claims in the United States and processing 2.4 billion healthcare transactions annually, including 1 billion in healthcare claims. HP provides an array of technology services for CMS and Medicare contractors, including data center services, maintenance of the Medicare Part A and Part B systems, and non-base system support.

HP-s premier Europe, Middle East and Africa client event, , takes place Dec. 4-6 in Frankfurt, Germany.
