Xirrus Ranked No. 2 on The Wall Street Journal-s “Next Big Thing” List

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 09/27/12 — Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless access, today announced that The Wall Street Journal has ranked the company second on its top 50 list of start-ups that could become the “Next Big Thing.” The third annual ranking of venture-capital backed U.S. companies — compiled by research firm VentureSource, which like The Wall Street Journal is owned by News Corp. — was compiled from a list of more than 5,900 candidates. Qualifying companies must have received an equity round of financing in the past three years and be valued at less than $1 billion.

“This is a tremendous honor and validates that the wireless technology category is going through explosive growth and that Xirrus is well positioned to be the -Next Big Thing,-” said Shane Buckley, Xirrus CEO. “We hear daily from industry analysts, world-class partners, and thousands of customers that we are the technology leader in this space. When Dirk first founded Xirrus in 2004, he had a vision that wireless would replace wired at the edge of the network, which today is a reality. Only Xirrus has the architecture to deliver a wired-like user experience over wireless networks in the most demanding device environments.”

“We have received dozens of awards and rankings over the years, but to have a highly esteemed organization such as The Wall Street Journal salute Xirrus, for the third straight year, makes us all very proud of the company we are building and the impact we are making around the world,” said Dirk Gates, executive chairman and founder of Xirrus. “Having our products deliver high-performance Wi-Fi to more than 90,000 bandwidth-hungry Dreamforce attendees last week is no trivial task. Customers increasingly turn to us because we have developed the only wireless network that can handle the extraordinary demands of today-s BYOD-driven enterprise.”

Xirrus Wireless Arrays feature a multi-radio design coupled with high-gain directional antennas and an integrated controller. Based on a modular chassis design, Xirrus Arrays deliver flexible upgradeability, high scalability, and uncompromised integrated security.
