New Cool-Power buck converter from Picor

The new PI33xx-00 series Cool-Power ZVS buck regulators from Picor, a subsidiary of US-based power specialists Vicor, are extremely efficient buck converters. Their ZVS technology (Zero Voltage Switching) causes less switching losses than the ‘hard’ switching topologies of many competitive products. This way the Cool-Power converters achieve outstanding efficiencies of up to 98%.

With 8V to 36V, the new DC-DC converters have a very wide input voltage range, which also includes the 24V industry standard. The internally programmed output voltage can be adjusted to the needs of the application with an external resistor (see table). The maximum output current is 10A; for higher currents, up to three modules can be connected in parallel.

The PI33xx-00 series Cool-Power regulators have a wide temperature range (chip: -40 °C to +125 °C) and various protective functions (UVLO, OVLO, OVP, OTP, and OCL). Due to their compact housing (10x14x2.56 mm LGA) and few external components (a coil and a few ceramic capacitors), they require very little space on the PCB. The new buck converters have no electrical isolation and are particularly suitable for point-of-load applications.
