AMAX-s ServMax Server Platforms to Support New Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors Codename “Knights Corner”

FREMONT, CA — (Marketwire) — 11/12/12 — Today, during the annual Supercomputing show in Salt Lake City, Utah, AMAX, a leading innovator of High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions, announced the release of its ServMax Many Core HPC Solutions, high-performance servers featuring the Intel® Xeon Phi Coprocessor family of products. Seen as a disruptive innovation, Intel-s Xeon Phi Coprocessors are an integral component to what makes AMAX-s ServMax line the essential ingredient for ideal performance-tuned efficiency-optimized clusters. These new AMAX HPC solutions, in conjunction with the Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors, have been honed to deliver the highest levels of parallel performance through increased developer productivity resulting in breakthrough innovations specifically within the public sector, energy, climate modeling and weather simulation, financial analysis, life sciences, computer-aided manufacturing and design (CAM/CAD), and digital content creation industries.

AMAX collaborated with Intel to engineer the ideal platforms to pair with the new state-of-the-art Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors, which come with distinctive features that have been meticulously constructed by the team at Intel, such as core architecture, parallelism, and programmability. The new Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors- Many Integrated Core (MIC) architecture is designed with additional smaller cores supporting more threads and wider vector units to allow for greater floating point performance per watt. The common programming models for Intel Xeon® processors extend to the Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors which provide developers the benefits of code re-use. AMAX-s ServMax Many Core HPC servers have been customized to be compatible with the Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors, which couple with the Intel Xeon processors via PCIe or as an independent node in a cluster. Intel will be at every stage working with AMAX to continuously further develop the Xeon Phi platform and cater to customers- demands, such as reducing power consumption without sacrificing computing performance, to maintain the product-s choice position.

“While Intel Xeon processors remain the preferred choice for a broad range of applications, Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors are designed to provide efficient performance for highly parallel applications,” said Dr. Stephen Wheat, General Manager of High-Performance Computing at Intel. “Together with AMAX-s custom HPC platforms, customers can experience the equilibrium between scalability, performance, and cost effectiveness through increased developer productivity combined with Intel Xeon Phi-s innovative core architecture.”

Not only are the Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors based on Intel-s MIC architecture, but they also feature the latest 3-D Tri-Gate transistors on Intel-s 22nm technology, which provide an unprecedented combination of improved performance and energy efficiency compared to previous generations. The convergence of these technologies stamps Intel-s Xeon Phi Coprocessors as the ubiquitous disruptive technology in AMAX-s ServMax Solutions. The open architecture and customization of AMAX-s ServMax Many Core HPC solutions paired with the Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors gives developers and researchers the building blocks for the most efficient cluster hardware architectures to execute applications like reverse time migration in energy, Monte Carlo for financial analysis, and ray tracing for digital content creation, to name a few. Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors run at greater than 1 teraflop for peak double precision with more than 50 cores and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. When incorporated into AMAX-s ServMax solutions which allot for high end I/O capacity and flexibility, the combination delivers superior performance and scalability for highly parallel workloads and is the perfect building block for high performance computing clusters.

“The Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessors offer sophisticated performance efficiency and unique capabilities positioning it as an incomparable product in today-s HPC solution platforms market,” said James Huang, Product Development Manager at AMAX. “These new products are utilized with AMAX-s ServMax HPC solutions from single servers to high-performance full-rack clusters to target customers with compute and memory bound workloads that require higher aggregate performance for highly parallel applications and high density environments.”
