PlayMG Honors Young Masters as They Reimagine Play for Their Generation

SAN DIEGO, CA — (Marketwire) — 11/20/12 — . is celebrating more than the recent launch of its all new — the first pocketable Wi-Fi gaming system for young people — it is also celebrating teen movers and shakers in youth culture for helping to inspire MG-s unique approach in redesigning play with the premiere of its “My Generation Has More Game” lifestyle video released today at .

“Our salute to young people begins with acknowledging the dozens who were involved in helping us design and test the MG,” said T. Scott Edwards, PlayMG Founding Partner. “And now that the MG has launched, we continue to look for and celebrate inspiring young people who not only enjoy the MG way, but are helping shape and innovate how their generation plays.”

The “My Generation Has More Game” video introduces a select group of PlayMG “Young Masters” — standout young people who are each master craftsmen and women pushing the boundaries in their respective fields. Each of the MG Young Masters has reimagined the youth culture experience in areas such as sports, technology, design and entertainment, and embodies the driving force behind MG — to reimagine play for young people. Shot on location in Venice Beach, California, the video features music from critically acclaimed alt-pop band Echosmith, as skater and surfer Shane Borland shreds the Venice Skate Park, along with time lapse video of visionary street artist Sand One creating an original MG masterpiece, while app programmer and philanthropist Cameron Cohen teaches adults how to build apps.

Hailing from Toluca Lake, California, this breakout band consists of four super-talented siblings: Sydney, Jamie, Noah and Graham, whose compelling live shows continue to blow their growing fan base away. The band was signed by Warner Bros. Records Chairman, Rob Cavallo and Sr. VP of A&R Mike Elizondo. Cavallo has worked with Green Day and many other ground-breaking bands. Elizondo has worked with Regina Spektor and Tegan and Sara. Both Cavallo and Elizonda are overseeing Echosmith-s debut album. Echosmith-s song “Tonight We-re Making History” was used in official promos for the 2012 London Olympics on NBC, alongside MUSE and The Black Keys. PlayMG is honored to be working with the band as they begin to develop new material, such as the song “Come Together” which is featured in the new MG “My Generation” video at .

Cameron-s road to philanthropy and app development started in March 2009, when at the age of 11 he was a patient at UCLA Medical Center-Santa Monica, where he underwent surgery for what turned out to be a benign bone tumor. He remained hospitalized for 10 days and then headed home to Brentwood, California to recuperate in a bulky leg brace, which sidelined him from sports and other physical activity. To stay busy, Cameron taught himself app programming language by reading manuals and watching Stanford University professors along with other online tutorials. He decided to develop a quality drawing app that was only 99 cents and affordable for everyone, which led to iSketch. He donated $20,000 of the proceeds from its sales to the Chase Child Life program at Mattel Children-s Hospital UCLA for the purchase of computers, games and gaming devices to keep young patients occupied while in the hospital. While in eighth grade, he created another app called AnimalGrams (and AnimalGrams HD) with the goal of raising funds to support pediatric cancer research. Cameron is now working with the PlayMG team to bring his apps to the Android platform.

Shane was just six years old when he became a two-sport athlete — carving both asphalt and ocean waves at home in Topanga Canyon, California. Shane has now been included in Volcom-s skate and surf team and will be competing against riders twice his age. Shane-s sponsors include: Powell Skateboards, RVCA Surf and Skate, Globe Shoes, Bones Wheels, Body Glove Wetsuits and Tuttle Surfboards. He has become a regular on the action sports scene and his incredible riding style, recently profiled by , is in full effect in MG-s new “My Generation” video at Youtube.com/mgmoregame.

With impactful street art that can be found throughout her hometown of Los Angeles, Art Basel in Miami and around the world, Sand One-s signature mob of female cartoon characters, known as “Sand Chiks,” have taken the art and design communities by storm. Her underlying theme seeks to liberate gender-biased characteristics often imposed on women while also questioning the relationship between street art, fine art and art institutions. As one of the youngest female urban artists in the street art scene, Sand One-s talent, drive and ambition have enabled her to break barriers and expand the reach and exhibition of her street-art styling.
