EE Consolidates Position as the Network for Film Fans With BAFTA Sponsorship

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 11/30/12 — Britain-s first superfast 4G mobile and has consolidated its position as the network for fans of film, with the announcement that it will be the headline sponsor for The British Academy of Film and Television Arts- (BAFTA) annual awards.

The 2013 ceremony, which takes place on Sunday 10 February 2013, will be known as the EE British Academy Film Awards, replacing the former headline sponsor and sister brand of EE, Orange. In addition, the 4G network will also support the associated EE Rising Star Award which accompanies the event. This accolade singles out new acting talent and is voted for by the British public. Previous winners have included Tom Hardy, James McEvoy, Kristen Stewart and Adam Deacon.

According to BAFTA chief executive Amanda Berry, the 16-year partnership with Orange – and now EE – is born of a shared passion for film. This, she explained, can be seen in how the awards have grown during this time. “We are very excited about the new opportunities we can now explore with EE and look forward to sharing the very best in cinema and engaging with more film fans than ever before,” she concluded.

The move further highlights EE-s status as the network for UK film lovers. As it not only supports the British cinema industry through BAFTA sponsorship, but also offers the only that allow customers to enjoy movies wherever they are. When coupled with EE-s fibre broadband services, customers can experience film seamlessly both inside and outside the home too. For example, start watching something on a phone or tablet when out and about – then finish it on a laptop, from exactly where you left off, when at home.

Spencer McHugh, Director of Brand at EE, said: “Film is at the heart of what EE will offer customers, from streaming films from our film store over our 4G network to 2 for 1 cinema trips every Wednesday, and therefore our BAFTA partnership is ideal to help us communicate the EE brand values.”

The EE British Academy Film Awards will be broadcast on the BBC on Sunday 10 February 2013 and will once again be hosted by presenter, actor and director Stephen Fry.
