Vineyard Networks- Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) Provides Layer-7 Deep Packet Inspection and Application Classification for Xirrus Application Control

KELOWNA, BC — (Marketwire) — 12/04/12 — Vineyard Networks today announced that Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, is licensing Vineyard-s Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) Layer 7 Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and application classification technology and has integrated it with the recently announced Xirrus Application Control offering. Xirrus Application Control gives customers visibility into applications running over their networks and enables them to apply policies to ensure performance of critical applications and limit the bandwidth available to recreational applications. NAVL provides the comprehensive network traffic visibility that is the first step in the Xirrus Application Control process.

“We worked closely with Vineyard to integrate its NAVL engine into the Xirrus Application Control offering, and are the first in the WLAN space to do so,” said Steven Wastie, chief marketing officer for Xirrus. “This integration will help ensure that our users receive excellent quality of experience for their most critical applications, even when user numbers and device densities are extremely high.”

Vineyard-s NAVL is the industry-s most powerful Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) engine, providing real-time, Layer-7 classification of all network application traffic. NAVL is designed for fast, trouble-free integration into new and existing network infrastructure platforms. Its plug-in-enabled architecture ensures ongoing access to the most current performance-impacting network applications.

NAVL integration offers the following clear benefits over in-house DPI engine development:

Greatly reduces time-to-market and maintenance requirements for application-intelligent solutions

Enables vendors to both enhance and maintain focus on their offerings, including:

Wireless Network (WLAN) Access Points

Next-generation Firewalls (NGFW)

Secure Web Gateways (SWG)

Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliances

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Xirrus, a company with a long track record of innovation and an intent focus on its customers- needs,” said Jason Richards, president and CEO of Vineyard Networks. “Xirrus- integration of NAVL with the Application Control feature set of its wireless arrays sets a new high bar for the wireless industry, and is an excellent example of the ease with which NAVL can be integrated into a wide variety of platforms in both wired and wireless networks.”

Vineyard Networks delivers next-generation Deep Packet Inspection technology to network infrastructure vendors around the world. Vineyard-s NAVL DPI engine is an OEM solution powering today-s application aware platforms, from next-generation Firewalls to Mobile Telco Gateways. NAVL inspects and analyzes network data in real-time providing accurate detection of today-s most popular applications with the ability to extract metadata and application attributes from the network traffic.
