Cambashi Research Shows Growth in Spending for Technical Applications Software

BOSTON, MA and CAMBRIDGE, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 12/11/12 — Cambashi, a leading global industry analyst and market consulting firm, today revealed its latest industry research which shows a healthy growth in spending for technical applications software generally but notes some concern with the Eurozone. The findings are included in the Cambashi Country Observatory for the third quarter of 2012, which is currently available as a stand-alone report or as part of the Q3 2012 Cambashi Market Observatories. The technical applications covered in the research include architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) and well as manufacturing (CAD/CAM/CAE and PDM/PLM) and geospatial software applications.

While the BRIC countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China continue with strong growth, a second generation of emerging nations is also making good progress. These are the so-called CIVET countries of Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt and Turkey that are growing at a rate similar to the North American market (U.S., Canada and Mexico). While CIVET is still a small market (equivalent to just over 4% of the overall North American market), the research identifies opportunity for continued growth in these areas.

Growth in the 17 nations included in the Eurozone* has been impacted by industrial contraction in Spain, Italy and Greece, which has lowered the overall figure in this region. Because of this, Cambashi notes that the Eurozone should be considered as two distinct areas — North and South. Figures shown here are based on calculations in US Dollars for ease of comparison globally. It is worth noting that a decline in the Eurozone countries is still evident when considered in Euros, albeit less so because of the relative strength of the Euro and US dollar.

“Currently most indices show manufacturing and construction activities in continuing recession in the U.S. and Europe with a mixed picture in other regions,” noted Tony Christian, Director at Cambashi. “However, there is a widespread realization that survival and restoring growth requires increased productivity and advanced design which is putting pressure on companies to continue investing, albeit cautiously, in technical applications.”

The Cambashi Market Observatories provide a four-way view on the AEC, CAD, CAM, PLM, CAE and GIS application software market — by country, industry, economic activity and product line. The third quarter 2012 releases bring the Observatories up to date with the very latest market forecasts and company reports.

*Countries of the Eurozone are Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
