RS Components Gives Lifeline to Young Engineers

CORBY, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 12/12/12 — RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), the world-s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, is helping to put UK manufacturing on the map by supporting young engineers at Corby-s of Further and Higher Education.

RS, which is one of the town-s business success stories, has donated GBP 10,000 to Tresham-s engineering department. The funding has paid for a suite of Programmable Logic Control (PLC-s) software and hardware which drive FESTO Hydraulic and Pneumatic circuits, a highly expensive but essential which can be found in engineering workshops and manufacturing facilities around the country.

Ian Mawdsley, Head of Engineering at Tresham is thrilled with the donation, commenting: “RS recognises the need to nurture the engineers of the future and has made a very generous donation which will directly help those studying at Tresham. The job market is tough which is why we aim to give our students not only the very best education, but also the chance to work with the tools and equipment they will find when they enter the workplace. It-s great to see an international firm supporting those on its doorstep.”

RS has been able to supplement the donation with a number of products found online at rswww.com and in its catalogue. Ian continues: “Items such as safety boots and overalls are invaluable to us as they are used everyday in the workshop. Due to the nature of the work the students are undertaking we get through items such as this really quickly so they are really appreciated by both the students and trainers.”

Tresham has recently been placed within the top 10 performing colleges for success rates out of all 230 general FE colleges across England.

It offers a range of courses, with the Corby campus focusing on qualifications in areas such as engineering and design.

Jon Hull, Head of Resourcing at RS commented: “Manufacturing is a thriving UK industry so we are keen to help build this key sector by supporting young talent. Tresham offers a fantastic facility for young people in the local area and it is important to us that we are able to directly put something back in the community with a donation that will create transferable skills for the engineering students.”
