OpenSynergy Joins ARM Connected Community

Berlin, 12th May 2009 OpenSynergy, a leading software developing company in the fields of AUTOSAR, Infotainment and Connectivity, today announces it is a new member in the ARM® Connected Community, the industry’s largest ecosystem of ARM technology-based products and services. As part of the ARM Connected Community, OpenSynergy will gain access to a full range of resources to help it market and deploy innovative solutions that will enable developers to get their ARM Powered® products to market faster.

Partnership to demonstrate virtualization on ARM
OpenSynergy launched its first release of their automotive operating system COQOS in March 2009. COQOS is based on virtualization technology which allows partitioning and communication of different automotive operating systems (ie. Linux, AUTOSAR etc.) on one single hardware, for example the ARM9 family processor. Frank-Peter Böhm, CEO of OpenSynergy, says “Virtualization is the latest state-of-the-art technology to partition automotive functions (AUTOSAR, non-AUTOSAR) on one single ECU or to merge them with infotainment into a single head unit. This enables automotive manufacturers, manufacturers of ECU´s or head unit systems to create or integrate newest applications and nonetheless reducing their costs in development and hardware investment.”

“The partnership between OpenSynergy and the ARM Connected Community explains the demand of the market to put concerted power together. The partnership combines high processor performance of the market leader ARM with the standard car operating system COQOS,” explains Wayne Lyons, Global Director of Automotive at ARM. “The combination of the ARM family processor and COQOS will reduce hardware and development cost to a level where latest infotainment and AUTOSAR-based in-vehicle functionality becomes available even in the latest low-cost vehicles. Hence this partnership will introduce consumer electronics technology to the car in all vehicle classes.”
