Schoology Challenges Student Information System Vendors to Integration Wager Valued at $250,000

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 01/22/13 — Calling all Student Information System (SIS) vendors. , the leading cloud-based, collaborative learning platform for K-20 classrooms, announces the start of the Open SIS Challenge with prize money totaling $250,000.

Schoology has issued a bounty of $25,000 for up to 10 SIS vendors. The idea is simple: if you are an SIS vendor, build or provide access to an easy-to-use Web API. If Schoology can build a system-to-system integration using your API within 10 business days, the vendor receives $25,000. What makes Schoology so sure it-s possible? They-ve done it before, using the Schoology SIS Integration Platform to integrate with the PowerSchool API in less than a week!

Data integration is one of the biggest challenges facing schools and districts today, and the SIS is usually the source of that challenge. Schoology is so confident in the power and extensibility of its SIS Integration Platform that the company is willing to put its money where its mouth is. The just released SIS Integration Platform is a turnkey solution that enables the Schoology collaborative learning platform to integrate with any SIS that provides a Web API. PowerSchool, the market-leading SIS from Pearson that supports more than 10 million students globally is the first SIS to be integrated with Schoology using the SIS Integration Platform. Now is the time for other SIS vendors to take the challenge and help further the open exchange of educational data to help teachers teach better today and improve the learning lives of students.

The Schoology Open SIS Challenge begins today and will run through May 2013.

Any SIS vendor is encouraged to sign-up. Participants must have, or be willing to provide, a Web API and correlating documentation. For real-time bidirectional information flow, the vendor must also provide an event notification API or some Webhook capability. Those selected will be notified on June 1, 2013. For each selected vendor, Schoology will set a start date. On the start date, Schoology will gain access to the API. At the end of each 10-day sprint, results will be released to the public. If Schoology completes the integration, it will pay $25,000 to the SIS vendor.
