Okta Using Boundary to Optimize Amazon Web Services

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/31/13 — , a provider of application performance management (APM) software for next-generation applications, will participate in a webinar next month to promote its work with , the identity management company, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Okta has been using Boundary-s cloud solution since Spring 2012 to optimize the performance of applications running on AWS. Adam D-Amico, director of technical operations at Okta, will present the benefits of using Boundary with AWS. Amazon is hosting the webinar and AWS Solution Architect Miles Ward will lead the discussion. The event is scheduled for Thursday, February 7 at 10:00 a.m. PT. Interested parties can register to attend the event .

Boundary has developed to APM based on network monitoring and the requirements of modern, distributed applications running on cloud and hybrid infrastructure. Boundary collects flow data from application server instances by the second, to provide real-time insights into traffic patterns, network latency, packet retransmissions and other metrics. Customers using Boundary receive early warning signs for potential issues and faster identification of root causes, when problems do occur.

Okta delivers an on-demand identity and access management service that enables enterprises to accelerate the secure adoption of their Web-based applications. With Boundary, Okta has instant visibility into connectivity and latency on AWS and receives alerts of any suspicious traffic patterns. “We-re 100 percent in the cloud, so we have no way of monitoring the physical network,” said D-Amico. “We could see very coarse statistics before, but now we have an aggregated view and we can see fine-grained aspects of how the network is functioning. We use Boundary as a forensics tool to help diagnose episodic issues with the public cloud, which helps us re-provision the infrastructure accordingly.”

Boundary can monitor AWS status feeds for updates and will automatically post any changes directly to the Boundary dashboard for context. “Boundary provides a valuable service to our customers, since they can easily see how their applications on AWS are performing for users,” said Ward. “This not only gives them peace of mind about the apps and data they-re hosting with us, but it helps them plan and modify their service contract to achieve the exact service levels they need.”

provides a new kind of application monitoring for new IT architectures: one-second app visualization, cloud-compatible, and only a few minutes from setup to results. Boundary is a privately-held company based in San Francisco, California with venture funding from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Scale Venture Partners.
