New Speech-Enabled Mobile App Transforms Web Content Into Beautiful Audiovisual News Briefing

BOULDER, CO — (Marketwire) — 02/12/13 — Reactor Labs, a Boulder-based startup, announced today the launch of , a first-of-its-kind, speech-enabled mobile app assistant that transforms users- social feeds and favorite news sites into a cinematic news presentation that they can listen to or watch on their iPhone and Apple TV.

Part conversational interface and part web content aggregation, Winston works by using deep semantic analysis to intelligently summarize web content, and presents it in an elegant audiovisual newscast tailored specifically to users- interests. Rather than simply reading Facebook posts and Tweets out loud, Winston is able to accurately describe short-length, informal social content by identifying the relevant topics, ideas, people and sentiments.

“With Winston, we wanted to create a new way for people to interact with their personal web,” said Aaron Ting, CEO and co-founder of Reactor Labs. “So much of our day is spent leaning forward to read a tiny screen. We wanted people to lean back and listen. We wanted to start a new conversation between people and technology, one that empowers and inspires them to stay informed about the world around them.”

“The ability to keep up with the day-s headlines and one-s favorite social connections while engaging in other activities — such as driving — is a very attractive concept,” said Jason Stein, founding partner of Windforce Ventures, which led Winston-s latest funding round. “In this sense, Winston is exceptionally forward-thinking, and points to the need for lean-back technology to drive increasingly more content consumption.”

To that end, Reactor Labs has received interest for licensing and advertising opportunities from multiple companies, including high-profile consumer electronics and automotive brands. The company is a recent graduate of DreamIt Ventures, and its current investors include Windforce Ventures, ENIAC Ventures and Woodgen, among others.

Winston is available for free in the Apple App Store in the U.S. and a number of other English-speaking countries. It will be released in additional countries — as well as on Android — in the near future.

Reactor Labs is a Boulder-based startup company creating forward-thinking products to inspire a closer, more meaningful relationship between consumers and their personal web. Developed by Reactor Labs and lovingly inspired by science fiction, Winston is a speech-enabled app that uses deep semantic analysis to transform consumers- social feeds and favorite news sites into an intelligent, narrated, CNN-style news presentation that they can watch and listen to via iPhone and Apple TV.
