Infor Streamlines the Online Orientation Process for the Pennsylvania Office of Administration

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 02/14/13 — , a leading provider of business application software serving more than 70,000 customers, has partnered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to launch an updated online orientation process for newly hired employees. The Onboarding module, part of , will help reduce the annual cost of providing HR services to employees through a multi-tier approach, and the organization estimates hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings and productivity via this implementation.

The new process provides employees with a standard, online orientation across all divisions. Now, new hires can read and acknowledge workplace policies, set up direct deposit, enter emergency contact information, and enroll in medical benefits — all before they ever set foot in the door for their first day.

“The executive branch hires approximately 600 employees each month and devotes, on average, three hours preparing for each new hire,” said Kelly Powell Logan, secretary of administration, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. “Using technology, we can streamline the process for dozens of agencies and free-up HR staff to focus on strategic functions, such as workforce planning and employee development.”

The onboarding system is also used to initiate the creation of employee email accounts, badges and other credentials, and utilizes E-Verify, a federal system that compares information from an employee-s I-9 Form, Employment Eligibility Verification, to data from U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility.

“These innovations will allow new employees to become productive in their new jobs more quickly, and reduce the amount of time spent on administrative tasks associated with the hiring process,” Logan said.

The new onboarding process is managed by the Commonwealth-s HR Service Center. Launched in 2010, the center provides common human resources, benefits, payroll services and information to employees of agencies under the governor-s jurisdiction.

“By automating all of the steps in the new hire process, hiring managers, line managers, finance and HR, can focus time and effort on other tasks — increasing productivity throughout the organization by eliminating hours of administrative tasks,” said Amy Ihlen, industry strategy director, Human Capital Management, Infor. “Infor understands that this is especially important for the public sector handling greater demands with more stringent budget requirements, and we have designed our human capital management software to deliver better service without an abundance of dedicated resources.”
