Inphi Announces Interoperability Demonstration of Its Tri-Rate PHY/SerDes Gearbox With Finisar and NeoPhotonics CFP2 Modules at OFC/NFOEC 2013

SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwire) — 03/19/13 — Inphi Corporation (NYSE: IPHI), a leading provider of high-speed, mixed signal semiconductor solutions for the communications and computing markets, today announced that it has successfully demonstrated interoperability of its second generation Tri-Rate PHY/SerDes Gearbox (GB) ICs with Finisar and NeoPhotonics CFP2 optical modules. Based on Inphi-s new Tri-Rate PHY/SerDes GB solutions (), and together with ecosystem partners Finisar and NeoPhotonics, the companies will showcase the demonstration of next-generation 100G line card PHYs and modules interoperating with one another in Inphi-s booth #3247 at OFC/NFOEC 2013, from March 19-21, 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.

As part of the interoperability demonstration, Inphi will showcase the new Tri-Rate IN112510-LD 100G GB interoperating with multimode CFP2 modules from Finisar supporting 10x10G, 2x40G, or 100G short reach links (0-300m), as well as single mode CFP2 modules for 100G long reach applications (0-10km) from Finisar and NeoPhotonics. Delivering the industry-s most aggressive power and performance metrics, the new GB ICs with Inphi-s Tri-Rate foundation, enables seamless support of 10G, 40G and 100G Ethernet and OTN on a single line card.

“With the introduction of our Tri-Rate PHY/SerDes GB offering, Inphi-s successful ecosystem demonstration with Finisar and NeoPhotonics proves that the technology is ready and available to help designers build a single 10G, 40G and 100G line card that covers all applicable distances of interest for data center and enterprise networks,” said Siddharth Sheth, vice president of marketing for Inphi-s high-speed connectivity products.

Finisar, a global technology leader for fiber optic subsystems and components, will also showcase its new 100G BASE-LR4 CFP2 optical modules which use a quad 28G DFB DML PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit) TOSA and a quad 28G PIN PIC ROSA. The module has a maximum power dissipation of less than 8W, significantly lower than current CFP optical modules. The Finisar CFP2 LR4 modules are now carrying live traffic in field trials and are expected to be in full production this year.

“This ecosystem demonstration hosted by Inphi clearly shows the availability and viability of multi-rate CFP2 module solutions for next-generation 10G, 40G and 100G line cards,” said Christian Urricariet, director of marketing for High-Speed Optics at Finisar. “Our DFB and VCSEL technologies facilitate lower power CFP2 solutions, which alongside Inphi-s performance and power optimized Tri-Rate PHY/SerDes GB, will be able to help meet the critical density requirements for up to 1 Terabit/second high-port-count line cards that implement the CFP2 form factor.”

NeoPhotonics Corporation is a leading designer and manufacturer of photonic integrated circuit, or PIC, based modules and subsystems for bandwidth-intensive, high speed communications networks. As part of this demo NeoPhotonics will showcase its new 4x28G multi-rate CFP2 LR4 module based on PIC integrated transmitter utilizing proven high performance EML lasers which not only satisfy the datacom requirements but also meet the stringent ITU-T standard required by Telecom service providers.

“This CFP2 ecosystem demonstration is showcasing the readiness of our CFP2 module and its successful interoperability with Inphi and Finisar,” said Ferris Lipscomb, vice president of marketing at NeoPhotonics. “NeoPhotonics, with its portfolio of PIC based 10×10 and 4x28G multi-rate CFP2 solutions, and Inphi with its Tri-Rate PHY/SerDes GB will enable high port density line card offerings and will provide our customers with the flexibility to meet many different network demands.”
