Eight-Channel Programmable High Voltage Ultrasound Transmit Beamformer From Supertex Delivers Better Board Density and Image Quality

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 03/27/13 — Supertex (NASDAQ: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the HV7351, an eight channel, programmable high voltage ultrasound transmit beamformer specially designed for medical diagnostic ultrasound applications.

Each channel of the HV7351 is capable of swinging up to +/-70V with an active discharge back to 0V. The outputs can source and sink more than 3.0A to achieve fast output rise and fall times. The active discharge is also capable of sourcing and sinking 3.0A for a fast return to ground. Each output is controlled by a 32-bit serial shift register. An arbitrary pattern can be generated depending on what is loaded into the shift registers. Up to four independent patterns can be loaded. This allows users to quickly change mode, for example, B-mode to PW-mode quickly without having to clock in new data. A programmable 200MHz 10-bit delay counter is provided for each output allowing the users to program different delay times for each channel for beamforming. Once the patterns and delay times are loaded, a single logic trigger command can fire all eight channels with the selected pattern and associated delay times.

The Supertex HV7351 topology will significantly reduce the number of I/O logic control lines needed for the transmitter, which have been a major concern in complexity and board space layout. “As medical diagnostic ultrasound systems increase in both portability and channel density, Supertex remains committed to providing innovative products to ultrasound equipment manufacturers with the highest performing ICs on the market,” states Jimes Lei, Director of Application Engineering of Supertex. “This versatile, high voltage, high density, programmable transmit beamformer IC will reduce the number of I/O connections, simplify PC board layout, and minimizes delay time errors.”

The HV7351 is available in a lead(Pb)-free/RoHS compliant 80-lead (11×11) QFN package (HV7351K6-G). Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks. Pricing is US$28.78 each for the HV7351K6-G in 1K quantities.

Supertex, Inc. is a publicly held mixed signal semiconductor manufacturer, focused in high voltage analog and mixed signal products for use in the medical, LED lighting, printer and display, industrial and telecommunication industries.
