e.Digital Files Patent Infringement Lawsuits Against Motorola, Apple, RIM, Huawei, ZTE and Others

SAN DIEGO, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/02/13 — (OTCQB: EDIG), a long standing source of innovation and future-defining patented technologies, announced today that it has filed five new patent infringement lawsuits in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

Handal & Associates, on behalf of the Company, has recently filed five separate lawsuits against entities that e.Digital believes infringe the Company-s U.S. patents covering the use of flash memory technologies. The patents in question are a part of e.Digital-s Flash-R patent portfolio. The recent filings bring the number of cases currently on file against defendants alleged to infringe the Company-s patents to a total of twenty-one.

The filings are against Motorola Mobility LLC, Apple Inc., Research In Motion Limited dba BlackBerry, Research In Motion Corporation dba BlackBerry, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Futurewei Technologies, Inc. dba Huawei Technologies (USA), Huawei Device USA, Inc., ZTE Corporation, and ZTE (USA) Inc. all of whom the Company believes make or sell infringing products. Along with them e.Digital has named several of their distributors and retailers who are believed to carry and sell infringing products. These distributors and retailers include AT&T Mobility, LLC; Verizon Communications, Inc.; Sprint Nextel Corporation; T-Mobile USA, Inc.; Leap Wireless International, Inc. aka Cricket Wireless; Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Target Corporation; Kmart Corporation; Best Buy Co., Inc.; Best Buy Stores, L.P.; Best Buy.Com LLC; and TrackFone Wireless, Inc., aka Net10.

The suits allege infringement of multiple claims across several patents covering a broad spectrum of products. Notably, the suits seek infringement damages against smartphones and tablets for features related to, among other things, flash memory integrity testing, noise suppression technology and file management functionalities.

“The Flash-R patent portfolio is rich in technologies and teachings that are central to the functionality of many current consumer electronics products,” said Anton Handal, counsel for e.Digital Corporation. “Among these is the noise cancellation claims of the -108 patent, which, generally speaking, teach the use of two microphones in handheld devices to reduce background noise. We are also seeing the use of file editing functionalities in these products that are embodied in the -170 patent. In addition, we are seeing many flash-based devices utilizing a memory integrity technology that was patented by e.Digital. Determining memory integrity is very important technology in today-s highly-integrated consumer electronics.”

“We are very pleased with the progress Handal & Associates has made in continuing to monetize our Flash-R patent portfolio,” said Fred Falk, president and CEO of e.Digital. “They have a comprehensive understanding of the entire patent portfolio and are leveraging that knowledge to continue to broaden our licensing opportunities. We expect to file additional lawsuits throughout our new fiscal year as we continue to gain momentum.”

For more than 20 years, e.Digital-s ideas and inventions have impacted the evolution of consumer products. Today, e.Digital innovations, including its Flash-R portfolio of flash memory-related patents, are essential to many portable consumer electronic products. The Company pioneered dedicated portable in-flight entertainment systems and more than 30 airlines have made e.Digital powered products their in-flight entertainment choice.
