KIT digital Develops Online User Experience for Eurosport

LAS VEGAS, NV — (Marketwired) — 04/09/13 — KIT digital, Inc., has been commissioned by Eurosport, Europe-s leading sports entertainment group to deliver a consistent and characterful user experience for its online and connected television services, which could lead to roll out to other platforms including computers, smartphones and tablets.

The first phase of the project was to deliver connectivity through connected televisions from LG, Panasonic and Samsung. Given that the three leading vendors operated significantly different platforms, the KIT digital team first developed a baseline standard to work well on each platform, determining the practical limits of page data and complex transitions. This was used as the reference point to ensure that a common design would be equally effective and functional on any device.

The team worked closely with stakeholders across Eurosport to determine their priorities in terms of on-screen functionality, and how the channel-s distinctive branding could be developed to create a consistent, attractive and immersive look and feel. They then looked at the requirements from the consumer viewpoint, determining user journeys, paying particular attention to the requirements of live television, which is a central requirement of sports broadcasting and a core element of Eurosport-s DNA.

Using the Agile development environment the KIT digital team was able to take these use cases and rapidly turn them into finished functionality, which matched the user experience and branding goals of the project. The connected TV apps* were released in time for the London 2012 Games, where they were the first in the world to include 3D video.

“Eurosport is hugely popular in 54 countries in Europe,” said Arnaud Maillard, Eurosport-s Internet & New Media Director. “It is therefore vital to us that our online services reflect the qualities of Eurosport, in immediacy and accuracy as well as our branding, so we turned to a specialist supplier, KIT digital, to help us design not just the underlying online technology platform but the user experience which our consumers will see.”

“Broadcasters like Eurosport recognise that one of the strongest drivers for online services is to build brand loyalty,” said Mark Christie, CTO of KIT digital. “Delivering content to consumers online and on mobile is not about getting an adequate stream out of the door, it is about giving your users an experience they will understand and appreciate, and to which they will keep returning.”

The Eurosport Player is being systematically rolled out across platforms. The first app was released for Panasonic connected TVs in Spring 2012*. KIT digital continues to work with Eurosport on porting the same user experience to an ever-broader range of devices.
