Lilee Systems and Cisco Plan the Industry-s First End-to-End Communications Network for Positive Train Control

SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/16/13 — , the leading provider of advanced communication systems designed exclusively for the railroad industry, today announced that the company is working with Cisco to define, design, and implement the industry-s first end-to-end communication architecture for Positive Train Control (PTC) systems. This joint effort aims to provide the rail industry with a solution to meet the mandate of the Rail Safety Improvement Act by the December 31, 2015 deadline.

Together, Cisco and Lilee Systems intend to offer an all-in-one solution that minimizes potential design and implementation risks, and provides for interoperability through proven and well-established technologies. The centerpiece of this architecture is the TransAir 220MHz Software Defined Radio, backhaul routers and switches, the core network, and a cloud computing platform. Each of these elements plays a key role in a robust communications structure where safety, performance, and efficiency are critical. A proof-of-concept network has been constructed in the San Francisco Bay Area to verify the end-to-end communication architecture.

“Our integrated solution provides rail system operators the proven technologies needed to minimize the risks faced to achieve full PTC compliance by the mandated deadline,” said Jia-Ru Li, CEO, Lilee Systems. “Together, we bring to our customers a seamless end-to-end solution which enables them to meet their project timeframe constraints and significantly reduce implementation risk, while minimizing their total cost of ownership.”

This combined solution from Lilee Systems and Cisco helps systems integrators and rail transportation equipment vendors to address the strict PTC requirements, including those that relate to next-generation Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement Systems (ACSES), by focusing on the two companies- core competencies for locomotive, wayside communications, and back office communications networks. Cisco and Lilee Systems together provide a reliable and highly secure communications fabric, designed to utilize proven technologies to lower implementation and design risk in order to meet the PTC deployment deadline while reducing the customer-s total cost of ownership.

“Together with Lilee, Cisco is able to deliver a comprehensive solution that is not only the first end-to-end communications network for positive train control, but that also establishes a blueprint for seamless, secure connectivity,” said Barry Einsig, Global Transportation Executive, Cisco. “By working to deliver this solution jointly, customers benefit from easy sourcing, delivery and support for improved implementation efficiency.”

By working together, Lilee Systems and Cisco allow rail customers to source a complete communications solution from a single provider, drawing from both companies- complete portfolios of solutions for transportation and connected industries. As a result, customers benefit from a streamlined quoting, delivery, and support process for better vendor management.

Founded by leaders in the wireless industry and headquartered in California-s Silicon Valley, Lilee Systems is the leading vendor of wired and wireless IP-networked communications products and solutions focused exclusively on the railroad and rail transit industry. Team members have extensive backgrounds in IP routing and switching, standardized LMR communications, and have been voting members of the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi, 802.15 WPAN, and 802.16 WiMAX working groups for many years. The company-s extensive experience in Software-Defined Radio (SDR) technology makes Lilee unique in the industry. By leveraging its core competencies in radio frequency (RF) systems and networking, Lilee Systems has developed the TransAir family, including the PTC-3000 series 220 MHz Radio Transceiver, the WMS-2000 Wayside Messaging Server, the LMC-5000 series Mobility Controller, and Communications Manager units to offer a complete end-to-end interoperable IP-based communications network.
