zSpace, Inc. Announces Platform Support for PyMOL and Avogadro

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/23/13 — , a technology provider that is transforming the future of human-computer interaction, announced today the compatibility of popular open source software, and , with its flagship product, , an immersive 3D platform that offers users a highly realistic and interactive experience. The integration of PyMOL with zSpace was developed in collaboration with the . zSpace, Inc. is demonstrating this new capability at , the zSpace Developers Conference taking place April 22- 23 in Mountain View, CA.

PyMOL and Avogadro are world renowned applications used for the presentation, visualization and modification of biological molecules. Avogadro is an advanced cross-platform molecule editor and visualizer designed for use in computational chemistry, molecular modeling, bioinformatics, materials science and related areas. PyMOL is a widely used program package for the scientific analysis, graphic and educational presentation of molecular structures. In labs around the globe, PyMOL is used on a daily basis for visualizing structure, measuring structural features such as distances and angles and for identifying binding interfaces, secondary structure elements, and protein-DNA readout modes.

“Scientists and students alike know that the visualization of molecular structures in two dimensions is very difficult or virtually impossible due to the volume and complexity of the information necessary to understand,” says Dr. Remo Rohs, the principal investigator at USC collaborating with zSpace. “The beta availability of PyMOL running on zSpace will allow scientists in both Academia and Industry to explore the benefits of a fully immersive and interactive solution right from their desktops, and to see how enhanced visualization will further their ability to research and make discoveries.”

“We are just beginning to understand the significance of how zSpace will impact scientific discovery,” says Dave Chavez, CTO of zSpace. “We are thrilled to have collaborated with USC, a leader in scientific research and innovation, to bring the benefits of zSpace to such popular applications as PyMOL and Avogadro. Now we are eager to see how our beta users will find ways to leverage zSpace in their workflows, enabling faster results and greater insights through an unprecedented level of realism.”
