New Online Training Course, LearnToProgram, Primes Students for Jobs

HARTFORD, CT — (Marketwired) — 05/03/13 — A series of new online courses allow anyone, from middle school students to retirees, to learn computer programming from home, says Mark Lassoff, a longtime tech trainer for the Department of Defense and founder and CEO of LearnToProgram, Inc., .

“Computer programming isn-t rocket science — just about anyone can learn it. One of our students is 12 years old, and we have plenty who are retirees looking for something new,” says Lassoff, whose courses combine video tutorials with hands-on help from live instructors.

“We have an epidemic of new college graduates who can-t find jobs and long-term unemployed workers from industries that saw huge layoffs during the recession,” Lassoff notes. “There are plenty of great jobs available for people who can develop mobile apps and video games — good, high-paying jobs with benefits — but there just aren-t enough qualified applicants. Employers advertise for a few weeks and then give up and go looking overseas.”

Computer programming jobs are expected to grow by 12 percent by 2020, while software developer jobs are forecast to grow by 30 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2010, the median salary for software developers was more than $90,500.

The reason for the shortage of qualified programmers is because technology and the job market are moving much faster than education in high schools and colleges, says Lassoff, who has trained employees at the Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin and Discover Card Services.

“This course is consistently giving me -Ahhhh that-s how they do it- moments,” writes student Ashleigh Murray. “I love it! I work in marketing and do not need to know the in-depth knowledge of HTML and language coding, however, knowing it will give me a competitive advantage in the workforce. … Thanks for such a great course.”

Mark Lassoff is the founder and CEO of LearnToProgram.tv, Inc. Lassoff majored in communication and computer science in college, and later worked in the software and web development departments at several large corporations. While his contemporaries were conquering the dot-com world, Lassoff fell in love with training. He-s a top technical trainer whose clients including the Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin, Discover Card Services and Kaiser Permaente. For people who want to dip a toe into programming, he offers free tutorials on his website.
