Verdantix Report Highlights How PE INTERNATIONAL-s GaBi Life Cycle Assessment Software Supports Critical Business Functions and Empowers CSOs

BOULDER, CO and STUTTGART, GERMANY — (Marketwired) — 05/08/13 — PE INTERNATIONAL, a global sustainability software and services firm, today announced that its GaBi Software for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has been featured in a new report from the analyst firm, Verdantix. According to the report, ” corporate sustainability cannot rely for long on quick win projects such as energy efficiency, recycling or policy setting. Leading firms are moving beyond the enterprise view to take a product life cycle approach. Product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) software like GaBi can support sustainability teams to work closely with other business functions to incorporate sustainability considerations into their processes.

“After speaking with customers of PE INTERNATIONAL-s GaBi solution, it was clear that users are benefiting from the software in a variety of ways,” said Abbie Curtis, author of the report and industry analyst at Verdantix. “It is supporting the embedding of sustainability across companies — from helping design teams to create more sustainable products, engaging suppliers and encouraging them to find lower-impact materials, to providing the key metrics necessary for ensuring compliance and substantiating the marketing and communication claims of green initiatives to internal and external audiences.”

Over the years, GaBi has evolved from a traditional LCA solution to a suite that combines detailed modelling with portfolio-level automation and easy-to-use web based platforms. The solution addresses the complex requirements of sustainability managers to provide critical data, while allowing more widespread organizational use as it helps to uncover opportunities for greater sustainability along the supply chain.

“We are pleased that Verdantix has taken the time to really dig in to our product and speak with our customers to understand the many features and unique benefits of our GaBi software platform,” said PE INTERNATIONAL CEO Michael Betz. “GaBi empowers organizations and their value chains to truly drive environmental initiatives — from the beginning of the supply chain through production and sales all the way to the end of the product life. Product sustainability has become a critical success factor for companies to reduce risk, save money and enhance their brand — and ultimately to be successful in the market place.”

PE INTERNATIONAL released GaBi 6.0 in December 2012. The product models the life cycle environmental impacts of a product from raw materials to usage and disposal. GaBi 6.0 is supported by GaBi Envision, a web-based tool that translates the complete LCA models into usable scenario reports for non-LCA experts. When used in conjunction, the integrated solution bridges the gap between complex and simple platforms producing sophisticated models that are easily translated and understood. Another valuable piece of the toolbox is GaBi DfX, which brings together organizational data from existing ERP platforms for use in LCA. It enables automated studies to be performed within 10 minutes providing analysis on entire product portfolios using existing data.
