Florida Department of Children and Families Selects LexisNexis(R) to Help Stop Public Assistance Fraud

WASHINGTON, DC — (Marketwired) — 05/14/13 — LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced that the company has been awarded a contract to provide customer online identity verification and authentication services to the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). The DCF is leveraging LexisNexis identity management solutions to verify and authenticate customers accessing public assistance benefits through its Automated Community Connection to Economic Self Sufficiency (ACCESS) Florida program. The LexisNexis technology integrated into ACCESS Florida helps confirm that customers are who they say they are before processing their benefit applications.

“We are dedicated to ensuring the people who need benefits receive them, and to do so, we have embarked on an aggressive campaign to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse in public assistance programs,” said Suzanne Vitale, deputy secretary for the Florida DCF. “By verifying and authenticating the identity of the customer before processing their application, we know whether the person seeking benefits is truly the individual applying for them. We expect this new approach to fighting fraud will save taxpayer dollars, expedite application processing and make certain that only those who need benefits receive them.”

Under the contract, LexisNexis processes requests of current DCF ACCESS Florida customers to verify and authenticate the identities of individuals seeking benefits from its Food Assistance, Temporary Cash Assistance and Medicaid programs. If a customer-s identity cannot be verified and authenticated using the LexisNexis technology, DCF will further investigate.

“We applaud Florida-s commitment to detecting and preventing fraud, waste and abuse and its innovation in being the first health and human services agency to leverage this technology at this phase,” said Clint Fuhrman, National Director of Government Health Care Programs, LexisNexis Risk Solutions. “Fraudsters steal identities or create synthetic identities to steal benefits, taking money from taxpayers and benefits from those who need them most. We are confident this approach will be successful in helping to prevent fraud in these programs.”
