Riverbed Strengthens Commitment to Federal Market; Achieves Common Criteria Certification for Network Performance Management Solution

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/16/13 — (NASDAQ: RVBD), the application performance company, today announced that its CascadeĀ® Profiler 9.6, Cascade Shark 9.6, Cascade Gateway 9.6, and Cascade Pilot 9.6, from its RiverbedĀ® Performance Management (RPM) product family, have achieved an EAL3+ certification under the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme (CCS). With the achievement of Common Criteria certification, Riverbed addresses critical assessment and validation under the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) and Cloud First mandates and demonstrates the company-s commitment to providing the highest level of independently verified information assurance to its customers and partners.

The Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) product family delivers the complete performance management needed by government agencies to quickly map IT assets and applications and reduce risks incurred during infrastructure consolidation or cloud migration. Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) solutions help federal agencies and enterprises to streamline application and performance management and assure security compliance while delivering mobile and global IT flexibility, end-user experience monitoring and end-to-end network visibility.

Common Criteria is an internationally recognized set of guidelines (ISO 15408), which define a common framework for evaluating security features and capabilities of Information Technology security products. The standard consists of several predetermined evaluation assurance levels, each one more stringent than the last. The resulting certification report demonstrates conformance to the Common Criteria standard. Information assurance certification of products is mandated by the United States government for federal information technology purchases for national security systems and Common Criteria meets the information assurance certification requirement.

To comply with the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) and the Cloud First policy, government agencies are consolidating their data centers, developing a cloud environment, and centralizing at least three traditionally independent IT services. Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) products are widely deployed across major civilian and defense agencies and they deliver the critical Department of Defense (DoD) assessment and validation required for federal government application-aware network performance management. This certification makes it easier for federal customers to purchase and deploy Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) solutions as it reduces the need for customers to conduct their own certifications.

Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) enables government agencies to significantly reduce the risk of network outages during infrastructure consolidation or migration to cloud environments by providing the automated analytics and predictive insight to understand the network impact on application performance, transactions, and end-user experience. Moreover, security concerns are driving the adoption of application-aware network performance technologies included in Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) such as network behavioral analytics for real-time anomaly detection, dependency mapping to reduce risk from change, and top-down troubleshooting for faster diagnosis of performance problems. Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) products combine simultaneous packet and flow data with discovery and dependency mapping so that government agencies cannot only be alerted to problems but also identify their root cause. These capabilities are critical for public and government entities to make more informed decisions, accelerate problem identification and resolution and mitigate risk during data center consolidation, disaster recovery or cloud migration projects.

“Government enterprises face a unique set of challenges when it comes to security and managing network and application performance and delivering a quality user experience,” said William Hartwell, vice president, Federal at Riverbed. “With this latest certification and others, including our FIPS 140-2 validation, we-re assuring federal agencies of the highest levels of security and ensuring that they aren-t forced to make tradeoffs for performance. Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) continues to lead the industry in helping numerous federal and civilian agencies meet key federal mandates.”

Many government agencies and associated civilian agencies are required by the National Information Assurance Acquisition Policy, NSTISSP No. 11, to purchase only those commercial security products, which have met specified third-party assurances and have been tested by an accredited national laboratory. This requirement is to ensure delivery of an approved, interoperable and secure platform for predicting network and application failures or performance issues. Riverbed engaged the services of Corsec Security, Inc. for assistance through the rigorous process of Common Criteria certification.

“Riverbed-s pursuit and achievement of an EAL 3+ Common Criteria certification demonstrates their focus and determination to provide their customers with a high-level of security,” said Matthew Appler, CEO of Corsec Security.

In addition to completing Common Criteria EAL 3+ certification, the certified Cascade 9.6 Riverbed Performance Management (RPM) products offer:

Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 validation

Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) validation — a methodology for standardized secure installation and maintenance of computer software and hardware
