SURGE Accelerator to Present Second Class of Energy Software Companies

HOUSTON, TX — (Marketwired) — 05/22/13 — Twelve energy software companies will emerge today at Houston-s House of Blues for SURGE Day, the premier showcase for energy technology innovation.

The program includes a keynote from renowned innovation expert, Jim Carroll, presentations from each of the twelve companies, networking, and an after party co-hosted with SXSW Eco and sponsored by SoftLayer.

SURGE Day is hosted by SURGE Accelerator, the only seed fund and early stage accelerator enabling entrepreneurs with software businesses poised to solve energy and natural resource challenges.

“Last year-s program provided a solid foundation and now we are even better positioned to explore other issues that need to be addressed such as the relationship between water and energy,” said Managing Director and Founder, Kirk Coburn. “Our journey has just begun.”

SURGE-s portfolio companies span energy efficiency, power generation, energy management, distributed generation, oil and gas exploration, security, drilling and well control, the industrial metal marketplace, water management and sub-salt imaging.

“Our original vision is happening in real-time. I thought last year was going to be impossible to replicate, but we-re expecting a crowd of more than 600 energy and power investors, executives, experts, entrepreneurs, and potential customers from around the world at SURGE Day. It-s going to be awesome!” said Coburn.

SURGE Class 2 companies have spent three months in Houston to participate in SURGE-S mentor-driven program, which included a rigorous curriculum with more than 40 sessions led by mentors, industry experts and guest speakers from across the energy value chain.

SURGE Accelerator is the leading seed fund and mentor-driven accelerator that identifies, invests in, and enables entrepreneurs who are solving the world-s energy and water problems using software. SURGE already ranks amongst the world-s elite accelerators. SURGE-s first class of companies have raised over $10M in funding and landed over 20 enterprise customers. 9 out of 11 companies are still operating.

Based in Houston, Texas, “The Energy Capital of the World,” SURGE runs an intensive 90-day bootcamp to identify leaders, validate business models, raise capital and connect companies to customers and the global energy ecosystem. SURGE has recruited over 150 of the world-s top scientists, engineers, executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and angel investors in energy and power to serve as mentors.
