Cyan Expands Blue Planet SDN Apps With Planet Inventory

PETALUMA, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/30/13 — (NYSE: CYNI) today announced the expansion of its suite of software-defined network (SDN) applications with Planet Inventory, a multi-vendor network asset management application. Planet Inventory, which supports both cloud-based and locally-hosted implementations, leverages Blue Planet-s element adapters (applications that facilitate control over a wide range of third-party network devices) in order to allow robust asset management and reporting in complex multi-vendor environments. Service providers, data center operators, and other network operators can reduce operating costs and accelerate service availability with the accurate network asset information delivered by Planet Inventory.

According to Michael Hatfield, Cyan president, “Rapidly changing demands on networks is causing an increased emphasis on the performance and ROI of network assets. As a result, many network operators are asking for a clear, multi-vendor view of what is in their network and how it is performing. Our Planet Inventory application significantly improves their visibility.”

Planet Inventory is designed to support multi-layer, multi-vendor networks. This enables Planet Inventory to provide detailed physical and logical reporting information across network environments, including Cyan-s Z-Series family of packet-optical transport platforms, as well as equipment from a broad range of third-party network equipment suppliers.

Planet Inventory includes a dynamic set of tools to browse collected data, including an advanced search-driven Object Browser, as well as a dynamic Object Graph, showing the relationships between various object types, such as cards, ports and services.

Cyan-s Blue Planet SDN system provides a centralized orchestration service from which network operators can configure and manage network-wide services. Because Blue Planet has direct access to the equipment, the data it provides represents the true state of the network. Operators may use this network-side data for a variety of needs, including inventory management.

Network operators can use Planet Inventory-s bulk export capability to do scheduled or on-demand database exports, using the data to populate their north-bound systems, thereby reducing the effort and cost of introducing new equipment types or domains.

Cyan enables network transformation. The company-s software-defined network (SDN) solutions deliver orchestration, visualization, and scale to networks that, until now, have been static and hardware driven. Serving carriers, enterprises, governments, and data center operators globally, Cyan-s open platforms provide multi-vendor control and visibility to network operators, making service delivery more efficient and profitable. Cyan solutions include SDN software, packet-optical transport platforms, and professional services. For more information, please visit or follow Cyan on Twitter at .
