VNS3 Overlay Networking Features Now Available in Google Compute Engine Cloud

LONDON — (Marketwired) — 06/26/13 — today announced availability for its core software defined networking product, VNS3, in (GCE). Enterprises currently using, or looking to use, GCE can create a VNS3 overlay network to control addressing, protocols, topology and encrypted communications in the cloud. VNS3 offers the benefits of six devices in one: a virtual firewall, router, switch, protocol re-distributor, IPsec concentrator and a scriptable REST API.

“Google Compute Engine is the one to watch as they have the potential to challenge AWS on both feature set and price point,” said CohesiveFT CTO Chris Swan. “As the GCE community grows, we hope to be a key hybrid and federated network component in all GCE customer deployments. VNS3 simplifies the path for customers to try GCE and connect their on-premises networks across existing public cloud topologies and to new GCE deployments.”

Google first made its IaaS platform, Google Compute Engine, generally available to any developer or business in late May 2013. The announcement came at its sixth annual I/O conference where the company highlighted other Google cloud developments such as updates to App EngineCloud Datastore.

Currently, GCE supports only Linux virtual machines (VMs). With VNS3, customers can extend their networks into the GCE environment and connect to other cloud networks. Customers can begin using VNS3 immediately by contacting the CohesiveFT team to get set up.

Enhanced Network Support – dual honed network capabilities for greater integration with the GCE network functionality provides increased VLAN control.

SNMP – VNS3 now supports most major commercial and open source monitoring systems.

Easier Client Configuration – clientpacks are available via a single configuration file for Linux, and pre-configured with remote entries for the VNS3 Manager, with no additional configuration necessary.

Enhanced Snapshot Management – makes it easier to manage and set UI and API credentials for the VNS3 snapshot feature. The snapshot lets you recover and re-create your VNS3 Managers easily in the cloud.

NAT Capabilities – use the VNS3 Manager to initiate outbound traffic to the Internet while preventing GCE server from directly receiving inbound traffic from outside GCE.

GCE Zone Federation – extend the VNS3 overlay network across zones to take advantage of GCE network speed.
