Signia Venture Partners Adds Windy Chien as EIR

MENLO PARK, CA — (Marketwired) — 07/23/13 — Signia Venture Partners announced today the addition of Windy Chien as an Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR). Chien was brought on board for her expertise and reputation as the early leader of Apple-s App Store Editorial team. An expert at identifying crucial functions that drive a company-s mobile success and in improving mobile app UI design and functionality, at Signia, Chien will expand on the traditional EIR role by acting as a valued venture consultant to the portfolio and seeking new investment opportunities within the mobile ecosystem for the long term.

“Windy has a wealth of experience in the mobile industry and we-re thrilled she has joined Signia as an EIR,” said Signia partner, Zaw Thet. “Part of the key to Signia-s success is our focus and commitment to bringing on subject matter experts like Windy that can help our founders in unique ways.”

Most recently with Apple since 2005, Chien-s background is in iOS product strategy, design, UI/UX, content, release strategy and best practices. During her tenure at Apple, Chien drove the development of high-profile iTunes editorial brands such as iTunes Essentials and iTunes Rewind, and managed the production of partner boutiques for Starbucks and Nike within iTunes.

An early manager of the App Store Editorial team, Windy spent three years developing the set of industry standards by which apps are evaluated. As part of this experience Windy also aligned with international editorial, design, and operations teams to debut culturally-sensitive localized storefronts in Asia and South America, and created hundreds of themed collections aimed at optimizing app discovery and customer satisfaction, including the Apps Starter Kit, the App Store Hall of Fame, the @Work collection for the enterprise, and the Apps for Learning education series.

Prior to Apple, Windy owned and operated the internationally-renowned music shop, Aquarius Records, where she helped nurture the Bay Area arts scene, produced festivals, and cultivated a worldwide network of independent music industry contacts. She continues as a pop culture commentator, has appeared in SPIN, Giant Robot, Billboard, the Village Voice, and is a -Cool Curator- on Flipboard.

Windy-s undergraduate senior project film screened at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival and the same year, she coordinated production for Lollapalooza-s Electric Carnival, a touring project of Paul Allen-s Interval Research exploring how youth interact with computers.
