Kantara Initiative Awards MITREid CSP Trustmark Grant at Assurance Level 1

PISCATAWAY, NJ — (Marketwired) — 07/30/13 — Kantara Initiative announces the Grant of Kantara Initiative Service Approval Trustmark to the MITREid service operating at Level of Assurance 1. MITREid was assessed against the Identity Assurance Framework – Service Assessment Criteria (IAF-SAC) as well as the Identity Credential Access Management (ICAM) Additional Criteria by Kantara Accredited Assessor Zygma LLC.

The IAF-SAC defines the criteria for each Level of Assurance that a Credential Service Provider is assessed against. The IAF-SAC has an alignment with the US document NIST 800-63 and benefits from active liaisons with ISO and ITU-T in order to ensure the program has international scope and application. The ICAM Additional Criteria define the specific US ICAM criteria that are assessed in addition to the IAF-SAC.

The market for high Assurance Level trusted credentials has further been developed by an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memo issued to U.S. Chief Information Officers (CIOs) that requires LoA 1 certified credentials be implemented for new government service web sites within 90 days of the first Trust Framework Provider final approval or when existing websites are enhanced or upgraded and LoA 2 and 3 non-crypto certified credentials be adopted for higher value U.S. Government agency services within the near term.

Kantara Initiative receives applications to Accredit Assessors, Approve Credential Service Providers (CSPs), and Recognize Identity Proofing and Credential Management service components to issue and manage trusted credentials for ICAM and non-ICAM Trust Framework ecosystems. The broad and unique cross section of industry and multi-jurisdictional stakeholders, within the Kantara Membership, have the opportunity to create profiles that add additional criteria to the core Identity Assurance Framework for applicability to their specific communities of trust.

“MITREid service provides a valued OpenID 2.0 service to well over 6500 of our employees, who are connected across more than 370 relying parties. The Kantara Service Approval Trustmark demonstrates that MITREid has been 3rd party verified for US ICAM Trust Framework Solutions operation and proves that the digital identities our employees carry with them on the Internet are trustable and backed by MITRE-s solid infrastructure,” said Justin Richer, Lead Technologist, MITRE.

“We are pleased to congratulate MITRE-s MITREid service on their grant of Kantara Trustmark at Assurance Level 1. We look forward to their continued leadership in the Identity Management space and as contributors to the Kantara Initiative network of experts,” said Joni Brennan, executive director, Kantara Initiative.
