Ecom Instruments and Getac Bring World-s First ATEX Android Tablet Into Hazardous Areas for the Connected Mobile Worker

ASSAMSTADT, GERMANY — (Marketwired) — 08/06/13 — Ecom instruments, global market leader and full-service provider in the field of portable explosion-protected equipment strengthens its partnership with Getac, global designer and manufacturer of rugged technology, supplying Getac-s new ATEX Zone 2/22 certified Z710-Ex rugged Android tablet and rugged handheld PS336-Ex in Europe and Middle East.

The introduction of the two new platforms and their unique feature sets into ecom-s innovative and comprehensive product line enables mobile workers in Energy, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals to deploy applications that have previously not been possible, driving efficiency and creating a safer plant environment.

The partnership between ecom and Getac began with the introduction of the V100-Ex ATEX laptop, which allowed workers to use a Windows-based device in hazardous areas. The innovation provided by Getac in designing rugged devices that are capable of surviving extreme environments has allowed workers to take mobile computing products into areas they had never been previously. Ecom-s experience in the field of portable explosion-protected equipment has allowed the partnership to grow with the release of these products.

The Z710-Ex is the world´s first rugged Android 4.1 ATEX Zone 2/22 certified tablet that is jointly launched by ecom and Getac to help mobile workers in Zone 2 hazardous areas fully utilise Android-based applications. This device has a range of exciting new features such as 5MP auto-focus camera and 7″ LumiBond sunlight readable capacitive display screen. The display allows the hazardous area worker to visualize plant drawings, equipment certificates and real-time plant dashboards. There are also multiple options that can be fitted to the Z710-Ex which include 3.5G WWAN and scanners with 1D/2D image barcode readers as well as HF RFID reader. Operating on Android 4.1 the Z710-Ex has an extended battery life to allow field workers to complete a normal shift (8-10 hours) without the need for recharging. This device is the only of its kind to bring the Android operating system into hazardous areas allowing mobile workers to use a wider range of applications than ever previously possible.

Included in this partnership is the innovative PS336-Ex ATEX Zone 2/22 certified handheld computer. This device comes complete with a revolutionary new feature in the form of the SiRFstarIV high sensitivity GPS which is the most accurate form of GPS that is able to be used in hazardous areas. This allows the mobile worker to have a greater command over any location-based applications than ever previously possible within extreme environments. The PS336-Ex gives the user the option of 1D barcode scanner, long-range Bluetooth and RFID readers in order to enhance their capabilities when performing inspections. Common uses of these technologies include monitoring of conditions in hazardous areas and monitoring of equipment. This device enables the use to scan and report data more easily and with greater accuracy.
