Pact Trade Association Joins Forces With Epidemic Sound to Offer Free Use of Its Sound Library to TV and Film Producers

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwired) — 09/26/13 — Pact, the UK trade association representing and promoting the commercial interests of independent creative content producers, today released details of a commercial agreement that gives Pact members six months of free, unlimited access to the library of production music.

“Music is an important creative component in TV and filmmaking and it can also be an expensive part of the production process,” said John McVay, chief executive at Pact. “Our indies now produce more hours of content for British TV than the BBC, so this is a substantial offer — will save independent producers hundreds of thousands of pounds — and Pact is all about helping its members make or save money.”

Under the agreement, the 500+ Pact member companies will have free use of the cloud-based Epidemic Sound library and super-fast tools for music search, exploration, editing and download. After the agreement expires in March 2014 Epidemic Sound will extend special pricing to Pact members.

“Production music licensing is totally broken,” said Oscar Höglund, Epidemic Sound-s co-founder and chief executive officer. “The old ways of doing business just don-t work when content is being watched any time, in any country, on any device.”

Epidemic Sound is reinventing with the first library that gives visual content creators use of professional-quality soundtracks in any country, on any platform, forever, for only a small fee. No additional charges are ever required of anyone, which is unique for a professional quality library.

Epidemic Sound can do this is because it doesn-t represent music, it owns it. Epidemic Sound buys music directly from when tracks are created, rather than making the artists wait and rely on collection societies to send royalty checks at an unknown, totally unpredictable time. As a result, Epidemic Sound gives today-s generation of musicians a new way to make a living making music.

The company was founded in 2009 by award-winning Swedish music, TV and Internet entrepreneurs, on the premise that current for production music — which accounts for approximately 90 percent of all music used in professional TV and online visual content production — is fundamentally flawed, and can not serve the current and future needs of visual content creation as it is increasingly streamed over the Internet and viewed on a wide variety of devices around the world.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Epidemic Sound is now the largest supplier of production music to TV in the Nordics.

Today the Epidemic Sound library contains more than 25,000 tracks that are tagged and formatted for the company-s advanced search tools used to explore, edit and download the music. Each track is broken into STEMS — individual tracks where the instruments can be heard and edited separately — thereby creating over 100,000 sound files available for use.

The tracks in the library have been created by more than 3,000 composers who are screened and mentored by a select production team lead by company co-founder Peer Åström, an award-winning producer with the world record for the most ever entries on the U.S. Billboard/iTunes chart and productions for Madonna, Kelly Clarkson and Enrique Iglesias. In addition to Epidemic Sound, Åström produces all of the music for the FOX hit show Glee.

Pact is the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television. It is the trade association representing UK independent film and TV production companies, and children-s, digital and animation media businesses. Pact is a successful campaigning organization and it protects producers- rights. Pact works to ensure British independent producers have opportunities for domestic and global business success and it offers a range of business services to its members. Pact actively lobbies government at local, regional, national and European levels, and it negotiates minimum trading terms with the major UK broadcasters on behalf of its members.
