Located in Monaco, CCM is the premier medical institution for the Mediterranean region. Physicians at CCM conduct more than 2,500 cardiovascular interventions and approximately 1,000 cardiovascular surgeries every year. Patients at the clinic are connected to mobile heart monitors, which gives them autonomy and mobility for post-surgical care, while letting nurses and doctors continuously monitor them. CCM needs reliable and pervasive Wi-Fi coverage for such monitoring.
The location of the hospital poses unique RF challenges. CCM is very close to a harbor, which amplifies RF interference. Due to low power radios in the medical devices, access points in the network needed to be placed closely together. A traditional Microcell based Wi-Fi network would generate extreme co-channel interference in such an environment. The Meru network at CCM, designed and deployed by systems integrator I2S, is able to avoid such interference due to the single channel, virtual cell option in the Mobile architecture.
