New SilkRoad Report Shows Only 19 Percent of Companies Will Use Big Data for HR in 2014

CHICAGO, IL — (Marketwired) — 10/07/13 — Research from SilkRoad, a leading global provider of cloud-based talent management solutions, reveals that the majority of companies have severely siloed talent management technologies, leading to disparate data and workflow processes. Only 14 percent report integration of all major HR functions — Recruiting, Onboarding, Learning, Performance, Succession and Workforce Planning. As a result, only 19 percent of companies will include Big Data in their 2014 HR strategy.

SilkRoad surveyed 380 HR professionals in July of 2013 to expose how the lack of integration amongst companies- talent management processes negatively impacts their ability to make strategic HR decisions. “Most companies are sitting on a goldmine of workforce information,” said John Shackleton, SilkRoad-s President and CEO. “But they-re missing opportunities to find meaningful patterns and trends because their talent management technologies don-t share data.”

The majority of survey respondents (18 percent) had only two HR functions integrated — recruiting and onboarding.

Among companies with some level of integration, 97 percent were either fully or partially automated. For respondents without integrated functions, only 71 percent had this level of automation.

The top three problems resulting from a lack of integration were: inconsistent workflows and processes (59 percent), a lack of critical data and analytics (59 percent), and duplicate efforts (56 percent).

The majority of respondents (57 percent) plan to incorporate social technology in their HR strategy. They believe that recruiting (82 percent), learning and development (62 percent), and onboarding (56 percent) are the processes that stand to benefit most.

56 percent of respondents feel it is important that social technology applications for HR have mobile capabilities. However, only 27 percent of respondents can currently access their company-s HR data through mobile devices.

HR professionals believe that Big Data will be most effective in workforce planning (52 percent) and talent acquisition (44 percent). However, only 19 percent of companies plan to include Big Data in their HR strategy for 2014.

SilkRoad conducted the “2013 Integrated Talent Management Survey: Strategic HR: Integrating Data and Applications for Business Advantage” online in July of 2013, with responses from 380 HR professionals in Recruiting, Learning, Development, and other HR practices.
