United Arab Emirates- Expo Centre Sharjah Supporting Some of the Region-s Most Highly-Trafficked Cultural and Business Events With Wi-Fi From Meru Networks

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — (Marketwired) — 10/21/13 — — Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in Wi-Fi networking, today announced that the Expo Centre Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates- (UAE) first exposition center, has chosen Meru to support its growing calendar of cultural and business-focused events. Expo IT management selected Meru over other wireless vendors to replace a network from Motorola after a series of rigorous tests.

“We needed a highly-reliable, extremely high-performance Wi-Fi system to support the needs of our vendors and attendees, all of whom use multiple mobile devices while in the exhibition hall,” said Faisal P.K., IT manager for the Expo Centre Sharjah. “It is not at all uncommon for us to see more than 5,000 concurrent sessions on the network, and the other vendors we tried simply could not support that level of mobile device density.”

The network is also extensively used by the Expo marketing staff, who tour events with wireless cameras and smartphones, taking photographs and videos and posting them to facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn to promote the activities in real-time. This practice, extremely challenging without a powerful Wi-Fi network, increases attendance at the events and raises the commercial and cultural profile of the Sharjah Emirate.

“It-s so simple, and yet so effective,” said Sheikha Azza Al-Qassimi, director of human resources and supporting services for the Expo Centre Sharjah. “For example, today is women-s day at the annual Watch and Jewelry Expo. My staff is photographing diamonds and other jewels and posting them to our social media sites. It is increasing footfall, and would be impossible without the Meru network.”

Established in 1977 by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, the Expo houses six separate exhibition halls with more than 26,000 square meters of indoor exhibits space. The center was initially created to host the Sharjah Book Fair, the region-s premier international literary conference and exhibition, drawing as many as 100,000 attendees to the Emirate annually. The center now hosts 20 events annually, focused on a broad range of topics including automobiles, employment, the environment, health and wellness, jewelry and manufacturing, every year.

Wi-Fi coverage and consistency of connection are always prime concerns in hospitality, as the overwhelming majority of hotel and conference center guests have told the industry. Survey after survey returns the same result: people simply will not visit a property that has sub-par Wi-Fi service. Meru-s patented single-channel architecture helps ensure uninterrupted service for guests and staff with wireless coverage that is consistently high-performing across entire properties, with no dead zones. Meru-s Wi-Fi is designed to permit guests to roam the property seamlessly with no dropped connections, making it perfect for streaming video and other bandwidth-intensive activities.

“The Expo Centre Sharjah is one of the region-s best known and most well-travelled conference facilities, and ensuring the availability of high-performance and reliable wireless connectivity for vendors and attendees is critical to its success,” said Zakir Lokare, director of the Middle East and Africa region at Meru. “We are pleased that Expo IT management chose Meru to support the thousands of vendors and attendees that fill their halls every year.”
