Compared to Twitter, Facebook Generates 10x More Shares, 20x More Site Traffic, and 30x More New Customers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/04/13 — In time for the 2013 holiday shopping season, technology company Curebit released data that suggests Facebook is thirty times more successful at driving social sales than Twitter. Through extensive tracking of social sharing patterns, Curebit uncovered that, compared to Twitter, Facebook generates 10x the shares, 20x the site traffic, and up to 30x as many new customers, making Facebook the ultimate platform for ecommerce companies hoping to drive social sales.

Curebit attributes Facebook-s exponentially high efficiency at driving social sales to the kind of connection the network fosters. While Twitter encourages brief interactions between strangers, Facebook is a place where friends connect and share their experiences. Since social sales are driven by trustworthy endorsements and genuine connections between friends, Facebook is the ultimate resource for ecommerce companies while Twitter falls flat. The performance difference between Facebook and Twitter is so dramatic that Curebit is eliminating Twitter from its referral options for ecommerce clients.

Says Brad Kam, Vice President at Curebit, “Twitter tends to be a one-way conversation where influencers are speaking to their followers, while Facebook is where actual friends are connecting. Friendship and trust are what drive new customers to buy. That is why Twitter is simply not as relevant for commerce.”

Companies tracking referrals through Curebit analytics can expect to see 19.3% of sales driven by Facebook, compared to 1.5% of sales driven by Twitter. Likewise, companies can expect to generate 30% of their new customers via Facebook, while Twitter contributes just 0.9%. Curebit-s data shows that, on average, Facebook is responsible for 35% of a company-s social shares while Twitter factors in 3.2%.

Curebit is a technology company that runs elite refer-a-friend programs designed for ecommerce companies. The company was founded in 2010 by Allan Grant, was part of Y Combinator-s Winter 2011 class, and currently has fourteen employees. Curebit-s programs have generated millions of dollars in sales for brands such as TOMS Shoes, Bonobos, Sephora, and Serena & Lily.
