ZMD AG (ZMDI), a Dresden-based semiconductor company that specializes in enabling energy-efficient solutions, was honored to receive the prestigious Environmental Best Practice 2013 Award for its “Battery Monitoring ICs for Start-Stop Features in Vehicles.” The stop-start functionality enables a vehicle-s on-board computer to turn the engine on or off reliably when idling allowing for a significant energy and CO2 savings at a relatively low cost compared with other vehicle platform changes. As a global supplier of analog and mixed-signal solutions for automotive, industrial, medical, information technology and consumer applications, ZMDI is committed to being the first choice in analog mixed-signal solutions enabling energy efficiency.

“At ZMDI, we believe that energy efficiency begins at the chip level, and we are proud of being leaders in this area. To reach this goal, -s product designers develop semiconductor products that are used by our customers to design innovative energy-efficient systems. Winning the Green Apple Award again this year for Environmental Best Practices is a great honor and encourages us as we continue to provide our automotive, consumer and industrial customers with IC solutions that significantly reduce energy consumption in end applications,” said Josef Janisch, Product Marketing Manager at ZMDI. “The ever-increasing global demand for energy drives ZMDI to design and develop products that have a real impact in helping to conserve energy and therefore reduce CO2 emissions.”

In addition to enabling “active” energy savings by using special technologies and design methodologies, ZMDI products also lead to “passive” energy savings. An example of a “passive” energy saving device is ZMDI-s battery monitoring IC, which enables the “stop-start” functionality in vehicles and therefore indirect (passive) energy/fuel saving. ZMDI-s energy-saving technologies address almost all market segments; e.g., automotive and transportation, lighting, industry and infrastructure, and mobile consumer applications. Its power management and sensor solutions enable customers to create the most energy-efficient products in their markets.

The Green Apple Environment Awards were launched in 1994 by The Green Organization and have become well established as one of the most popular environmental campaigns in the world. The awards are now in their eighteenth year and are well established as one of the major environmental recognition campaigns, both in the UK and internationally. The Green Apple Environment Awards recognize, reward and promote environmental best practices around the world.
