According to Yves Laliberte, President of Komutel, “this new addition allows Public Safety Access Points (PSAPs) to link existing as well as future call handling policies to their 911 operations. The advent of IP and of a more mobile and connected society is driving changes in how 911 services are provided. Current 911 technologies have been in service without much change for several decades. As PSAPs migrate their 911 call taking operations to IP, the volume of calls and the variety of 911 call scenarios are expected to increase by 15% to 30% according to some industry experts.
To better manage these increased demands, Komutel–s new software helps PSAPs capture, sort and respond to 911 calls according to their actual PSAP policies. The Software also supports a number of options including the possibility of automating response to short duration 911 calls from landlines and cell phones. “We developed our latest software to specifically address the issues highlighted by the PSAPs during industry forums, including the Emergency Services Work Group (ESWG) and TIF072, that are deemed the most crucial in the near term,” adds Laliberte. A number of PSAPs have already committed to this new application and are working on their implementation plans.
