Trifacta–s Jeffrey Heer Selected as a Recipient of a Moore Investigator in Data-Driven Discovery Award

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/02/14 — , a Data Transformation Platform provider, today announced that Trifacta CXO, Jeffrey Heer, was selected as a recipient of a Moore Investigator in Data-Driven Discovery award presented by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The foundation will provide 14 select scientists from academic institutions each with $1.5 million over a five-year period to catalyze new data-driven scientific discoveries. In addition to his work with Trifacta, Heer is the head of Interactive Data Lab at University of Washington and one of the key individuals behind visualization projects like D3.js, Protovis and Prefuse.

“I–m honored to be selected as a Moore Investigator in Data-Driven Discovery. I owe thanks to the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation for their generous support of data science research and to the outstanding teams I have the pleasure of working with both at Trifacta and at the University of Washington,” said Jeffrey Heer, CXO of Trifacta.

The Moore Investigator Awards are part of a $60 million, five-year Data Driven Discovery Initiative within the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation–s Science Program. The initiative — one of the largest privately funded data scientist programs of its kind, is committed to enabling new types of scientific breakthroughs by supporting interdisciplinary, data-driven researchers. Last year, the Moore Foundation announced an ambitious collaboration with three universities and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to create dedicated data science environments.
